Hosting a dinner party is one of the best ways to entertain friends and family members. Having a grill makes this occasion even better, allowing you to cook outdoors with your guests. It will also become a natural place for people to have conversations. While your grill looks great, you might need a surround. This will go around your grill, giving you more space and making the area look more appealing. Thankfully, it doesn’t have to be expensive to build a grill surround. Let’s look at how you can do this yourself.

Measure the Surround’s Size

You need to take precise measurements to ensure that everything ends up in the right place. First, you will need to remove the arm attachments of the grill. There will be instructions on how to do this in the manual. Then, you will need to measure the width, length, and height of the grill. You might also want to place markings on the ground to record the size of the grill. In addition, during this phase, you should determine how large you want the grille surround to be. You should mark the ideal area for your grill surround on the ground in a white chalk line. You can read more about grills here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grilling Bender

Build the Wooden Structure

This will be the main support system of the grille surround, you need to make sure that it’s strong. You should select lengths of wood that are the same size as the grill, ensuring the surround looks as natural as possible. First, you will need eight thick, 6×4-inch posts. These will form the main support for the grill. Then, you will need 16 2×4 blocks to become cross-support. Place two thicker posts on either side of the grill. Then, place the other two thick blocks on the end of the chalk line. The posts should now form a rectangle. Next, connect them using the smaller 2×4 planks. Use one plank on the bottom joint and one of the top joints. To make these connections stronger, consider using a rabbet joint, slotting the wood together. To ensure that they stay joined, place wood glue in the rabbet joint, then screw the planks in. Though we discussed the technique for building a rectangular grille surround, you can adapt this method to create more complex shapes. Once this has been completed, wait for a few hours while the glue dries. Then, apply a clear protective layer of varnish to the wood, this will help it survive the elements.

Add A Backing Board And Stonework

To do this, screw a strong backing board on the inside of the frame. Then, you can put faux stones on the backboard. These look like real rocks but are lighter and easier to cut. Then, you can apply glue to the back to attach them to the backing board. When attaching them to the backboard try to apply a pattern, alternating between colors and sizes. This will make your grill surround look more expensive than it actually is. In addition, they are waterproof and will help protect your grill from the rain.

Attach The Countertop

The final step to build a grill surround is to attach the countertop. There are multiple ways that you can do this. For example, you can create a custom mold, then fill it with concrete. Alternatively, you can purchase lengths of marble benchtop at the hardware store. Then, you can cut it to size. You should attach these materials firmly to the surround, using a strong glue. Alternatively, you might lay lengths of wood planks across the bench, attaching them with screws. Because there are so many different options to choose from, you can select the countertop idea that most appeals to you. There are also some things that you can do to customize the grill. For example, you might want to install a sink in the surround. Alternatively, you might want to put a cupboard in the surround, so you can store common grill accessories. A grill surround gives you more benchtop space when you are cooking on the grill. They also give your friends and family a surface to put their drinks on at parties. So, build a grill surround yourself today.
