Celebrations for Holi 2013 like any other year will be filled with colours, stuffed with sweets and loads of fun and entertainment. Holi 2013 falls on 27th of March of the Hindu calendar of Phalgun Purnima. In many places like Uttar Pradesh Holi celebrations will continue for 2 days and even more. The dates for Holi 2013 are based on the Hindu lunar calendar and will be celebrated on the last full moon day of Lunar month Phalguna.
Holi celebrations will infact begin on March 26th with Holika Dahan. There are several stories connected with Holi. Holika Dahan is the most popular legend of Holi where Holika was killed by Prahlad who chanted Vishnu’s name while being thrown into the fire. Other legends of Holi include legend of Radha Krishna, legend of Pootana, legend of Lord Kamdeva. One of the most famous stories behind Holi is that of Radha and Krishna. As a child, Krishna was jealous of Radha’s fair skin and so he decided to put colours on her and make her dark like him. Since then Holi is associated with Lord Krishna and Radha and celebrated with much fanfare.
