The Government of India has made the Aadhaar card, the unique identification number compulsory for almost all government and non-government functions. To get an Aadhaar card, you have to go to the Aadhar card center and register your details. But you do not need to go to any center to know the status of your application. You can check the status of your Aadhaar application online.

Once the application of Aadhaar card has been made at the enrolment center, it takes 90 days to be created. The person who had applied for it can check the status of their Aadhaar card on the UIDAI website. To check Aadhar card status, an applicant must have an enrolment slip. This slip is available at the time of enrollment. Remember that if you have given your mobile number at the time of applying the Aadhaar card, then UIDAI will send you an SMS once Aadhaar is generated.

Checking the status of generation of the Aadhaar card is very easy. The applicant just needs to follow a few steps and they can know the status.

Here is how an applicant can check the Aadhar card status on UIDAI website:

STEP 1: Search www.uidai.gov.in. and log in.

STEP 2: Click on 'Check Aadhaar Status' under the 'My Aadhaar' tab on the website.

STEP 3: Then, you have to enter your enrollment ID. This ID will be of 14 digits given in your enrollment slip.

STEP 4: Enter captcha code and click 'Check Status'.

STEP 5: If Aadhaar is generated, you can download it from the website. If the phone number is registered with Aadhaar data then you can download it on your mobile as well.

Here is how an applicant can check status from UIDAI helpline:

Apart from the website, there is another way to check your Aadhaar status if it is generated or not. After enrollment, you can call the helpline number of UIDAI which is 1947. To know the status, keep following the instructions given by helpline service. Keep your enrollment ID ready. The reason is that you will need to give all the information to the service call.

Once the Aadhaar is generated, the helpline gives you the status of Aadhaar generation. They will dictate the number of Aadhaar and you will need to write down the number. After writing the Aadhaar number, you can download it from the UIDAI website.

What are the options available if the enrollment slip is lost?

If you lose the enrollment slip, you can get the 28-digit enrollment number again. After this the status of your Aadhaar card can be checked. However, to get the enrollment number again, your mobile number or email ID should be registered at the time of enrollment for Aadhaar.

Here are the steps to follow the lost enrollment number again:

STEP 1: Search www.uidai.gov.in. and log in.

STEP 2: Under the 'My Aadhaar' tab in the website, select 'Retrieve Lost or Forgotten EID / UID'.

STEP 3: The website will take you to a new page. Then click on the option of 'Enrollment Number (EID)'.

STEP 4: Enter the earlier registered details. Name as recorded in Aadhaar Enrollment Form. Email or mobile number and security code as in the website.

STEP 5: Click on Send OTP. You will get the OTP on your registered mobile number.

STEP 6: Enter the received OTP and after entering, click on 'Verify'.

STEP 7: After verification, you will get the enrollment number on your email ID and mobile number as well.

On getting the enrollment number on the phone, follow the procedure mentioned above to check the Aadhaar status.

In this way, you can know your Aadhaar card status while sitting at home by following the above mentioned manner. In this way you will not only be able to know the status of the new Aadhaar card application but also you will know the status if you have made some changes in your Aadhaar card or have applied for a new Aadhaar card.
