Before you start looking for colleges to apply to, you need to ask yourself; “What interests me?” or “What do I want to study?” or “Do I see myself doing this for the rest of my life?” These questions will help you decide whether the time and money you will end up spending is worth it. Of course, this can be a daunting task; with the vast number of colleges and programs to choose from. So, how should you choose a degree program? Here’s what you need to do: rnAsk yourself- what interests me? Now you may think that the answer to this is fairly simple. And while it might be very clear to some people, it might still not be just as apparent to others. Think about your preferences, what excites you, what fascinates you, what your passions are and what motivates you. Once you have a clear idea about where your strengths and weaknesses lie, you can look up colleges that offer degree programs matching your interests. rnSpeak to friends and family Sometimes a third person can give you the best opinion. Once you have narrowed down your choices, you can consult your family and friends and ask them what they think. These people are some of the people closest to you and know you well enough to tell you whether they think you’re cut out for this program or not. rnWhat kind of job or career do I want? We all envision a life for ourselves. Some see themselves as doctors, some as writers. The list is endless really and when you have a goal in mind, all you need to do is the backward calculation. This is the time when you speak to other professionals you might know of from the field. Take their advice on the kinds of programs that are best suited for that career. rnLet’s take for example, nursing. Several accredited colleges, such as Stevens Henager College, now offer online as well as on-ground programs in nursing and nursing education at the associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s level. An associate’s degree is a two year undergraduate degree that prepares you to take the NCLEX-RN,and provides you with technical skill and knowledge after which you can join the work force immediately. Now some people might prefer leadership positions, so for those people a bachelor’s degree in nursing makes more sense. rnWhile picking the degree, you should read up on student reviews and testimonials and see whether what the college has to offer through its degree is what you want from it. Several Stevens Henager College testimonials read that the students were more than satisfied with the education they received and that they would do it all over again if they could. rnWhich degrees are most sought after? In many cases, you find that people have diverse interests and want to consider a degree which is most in demand. Such degrees could be business, computer science or healthcare related and there is a greater chance for growth and better compensation. Examine all aspects of the college These aspects include the location of the school and whether it offers online programs; the student-teacher ratio; the qualifications of the tutors; accreditation; government grants, scholarships, student loans and other financial aid; the length of the program and if you have the option of completing it in less than the normal completion required. These aspects will add detail to your program and make it all the more wholesome.
