You are about to get a computer powerful enough to roll all your favorite games (and those to come). But we should not neglect a very important aspect of a gaming computer: the monitor! Yes, I will talk about the Best Gaming Monitor For PS4 and how things to consider before picking it. But how to choose? Will you opt for a curved screen? With or without built-in speakers? What size? Is it Freesync or G-Sync compatible? By the way, what does that mean? Whether playing strategy games like Civilization VI , adventure games like Red Dead Redemption 2 , or shooting games in first person as Fortnite , here are some tips to help you choose the monitor for computer which will meet your needs. You will see that a monitor is not just a "screen". I also offer a host of links to shop around your screen with features like size, resolution, curved screen and more. There are screens of all sizes and resolutions. And in the case of game monitors, it is almost always better to opt for the larger model possible, to ensure a good immersion. So we are talking about a diagonal of at least 23 or 24 inches , ideally 25 to 29 inches ... or even bigger , if you like to see things big. In the case of a screen of 24 inches or less, 1080p resolution (1920 × 1080 pixels) is sufficient. On the other hand, a screen 27 inches or larger should be able to offer you a higher resolution, because unlike video games console, which are designed for 1080p, PC games allow you greater flexibility. Some can even reach or exceed the 4K resolution! Monitors with 1080p resolution include models at 2560 × 1440 (1440p or Quad HD) and 3840 × 2160 (4K). Some widescreen monitors also offer lower resolution resolutions such as 2560 × 1080 or 3440 × 1440 . On the other hand, to be able to play games with a resolution greater than 1080p, you need to make sure that your video card and your processor will be able to provide on demand. Ideal Refresh and Response Rate for a Game Monitor The refresh rate is the number of times that the display is "refreshed" by the second. For example, at 60 Hz, the display is refreshed 60 times. At 120 Hz, 120 times. The higher the rate, the better, to avoid blur or display artifacts. The response rate is the time required for a pixel to change state, so it activates to display a color or changes color. The response rate is expressed in milliseconds (ms). A game screen should never have a response rate higher than 5 ms, otherwise you might see a blur effect - also called ghosting , or ghosting - in some games or situations. For example, writing on a sign or sign in the scenery could become blurry, if not unreadable, when the game scrolls the picture of the scenery, or you rotate the camera with the mouse. There are three main types of display panels: TN (Twisted Nematic), VA (Vertical Alignment) and IPS (In-Plane Switching). If the IPS panels offer a higher quality (perfect for the photo, for example), they are a little less efficient than TN panels. On the other hand, TN panels offer lower quality in terms of color and contrast. VA panels, on the other hand, offer a good contrast ratio, rich colors, but can cause a greater blur effect, which is not ideal for action games. So it's better to go for a TN panel if you mostly use your computer to play ... or an IPS panel if you play a little, but prefer a picture quality to look at pictures, for example. What are Freesync and G-Sync? You may have noticed that some game monitors are compatible with "Freesync" or "G-Sync". These are technologies developed by AMD and NVIDIA that allow the screen to adopt a variable refresh rate, in order to synchronize with the graphics processor (GPU). Freesync technology is based on a free standard, compatible with HDMI and DisplayPort ports. The G-Sync standard requires the addition of a module on the screen, which increases the cost, but offers better performance and a higher dynamic range (HDR). However, G-Sync is only compatible with DisplayPort ports. Note that some screens are compatible with both standards. Curved screen or flat screen? Most monitors, whether they are made for the game or not, have a flat screen. On the other hand, there are monitors with curved - or curved - screens. What's the point? The same as a curved screen TV: offering a better immersion by covering a larger part of the player's field of vision. It's up to you to see if it's a feature that's important ... to you.
