Your College Term Papers is simply incomplete and unethical if you don’t choose to cite your sources. It falls under plagiarism and is equally unacceptable almost everywhere. It is utmost necessary to give credit to the author of a previous relevant work. Although students should mainly follow the citation style that is instructed by their teacher, there are 3 chief styles that are used in colleges today. These are APA, MLA and CME. This article will describe you to cite your sources using the APA citation styles. APA style of citation is commonly used in social sciences. Here are the rules that you must remember clearly in order to utilize the APA format correctly in you college papers. • In text citations (quotes or paraphrasing) • Direct Quotations:  Include page numbers and Quotations marks.  If your quotation is exceeds 40 words then use an intended block of text without the quotation marks.  Quoting from online material with no page numbers requires you to use the paragraph number instead. • Indirect Quotations:  Page numbers are optional but appreciated and encouraged as it enables the reader to discover references written in usually extended texts. • How to maintain references. • At the end it’s mandatory to give a bibliography for each source you cited in your college writing. • When listing from a secondary source, don’t list the primary. • Use a fresh page at the end of the assignment. Avoid the footnotes. • Listing should be done in alphabetical order, after that it should be done chronologically.  Books/ Books chapters. • Every reference should include 4 elements – Author, Date, Title, Publication info. • Use ampersand sign between the names of authors if written by more than one author.  Journals/Magazines/Newspapers. • Every reference must include Author, Date, Title of article, Title of Magazine/journal etc, and Volume, Issue and Page numbers.  Web Publications. • They include the same elements as a book referencing but a retrieval statement is inserted in place of publication information. • Key points to remember:  Invert the authors name; use the initials of first names.  Use ampersand between the last names of the 2 authors.  If there is a hyphen in authors name then include it.  Date of publication is written after the name of author in parenthesis.  Book titles should be written in italics. Book/journal etc. titles only. Not the chapters.  Edition etc should be included in parenthesis right after the title.  The description should be written within square brackets after the title. For example [DVD], [Word Document] etc.  Give the location and city of the publisher. Mention the province or state and the country as well.  When the author is the publisher, use the word “author” in the publisher field.  No publisher field is required for journals, magazine or newspapers etc. Although it might appear a little complicated and difficult to do the citations properly, however once you get used to, it’s not so much difficult to cite college term paper easily.
