Our weekly career tip takes into consideration the fact that job searching has changed lately. It wasn't so long ago when you only needed a couple of hours online to compile a solid list of jobs. Unfortunately, those bright times are gone, at list for the moment. Nowadays even browsing through the larger sites for an hour or two only leads to finding several appropriate jobs. The current economic crisis along with an uncertain economic future is determining the employers to be as cautious as possible. This also includes hiring new people. That's why today's job seekers are required to invest more time and effort in order to find a vacant work place. Job searching got tougher, but not impossible. There are still thousands of people being interviewed each day and there are thousands of people that get hired every day. If you want to share their fortune, you need to be dedicated and consistent. You need to do additional work and to be more organized. There's no shame in admitting it: if you want a quality job you should take some effort!
How does one start? First of all you have to expand your horizon. It's not enough to check Monster or Ontario Jobs Watcher each day - you need to look farther. The net is populated with a lot of web sites that exist with the mission to help you find a job. Most of them offer their services without any costs - all you need is to find and take advantage of them. Many people overlook the regional sites, which focus on a certain area. Others have forgotten about the online newspapers. None of these options should be ignored. Many of today's online newspapers are equipped with the search capabilities of any respectable job board. They could also provide additional useful information about local job fairs or career counseling seminars.
One can use social networking sites to his advantage. These sites can be huge assets in a job search. Surely you have a list of friends and contacts already built on one of the popular sites. With a simple post you can let this people know that you are searching for jobs. Word of mouth can deliver unexpected surprises. Depending on the particular social site that you're fond of, you could try to connect with past co-workers or bosses. These people know exactly the type or work you like and the most suited positions for you. With just a few great connections you're only one step away from that next job.
Some people develop a routine to go through every day or so. This strategy helps them to be more organized and get better search results. Compile a list of web sites that deliver job postings for your area, create accounts on each of these sites and keep revisiting them periodically. Some sites offer the possibility of being notified when new jobs are added to the site. A routine offers you much more chances than a random search that you perform whenever you feel like it. Keep your morale high, remember that there will some "no"s, but you only need a "yes".
The most important aspect of your job search is the fact that you will win a panoramic view of the market. You will see what types of jobs are the most desired, what jobs are offered more often, which one is paid better. Also you will come to discover more about the employers and the work environment.
Don't be ashamed to put more effort into the process of finding an excellent job. Dedication and consistency are your greatest allies in this mission. Employers will be amazed by your dedication and will discover qualities they want in a candidate.
