Slacking off during a class is really easy and tempting as well, especially if the teacher is unable to give individual attention to every student. Moreover, classes can get boring and with the distraction of friends all around you, it is not hard to lose concentration. But every student knows that not concentrating in class has its pitfalls later. Therefore, it is very important to follow certain steps on how to concentrate in class in order to get better grades. • Get a good night’s sleep: Not getting enough sleep does not let your brain recharge. It slows down blood flow and the thinking process. The result is a slow brain, which refuses to listen to what the teacher is saying and is of no help in retaining information. A person should ideally get seven to eight hours of sleep for proper brain functioning. • Get a wholesome breakfast: Having a cold pizza is not a healthy breakfast. Neither is a hurried meal on the go. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day as it helps you in getting started for the day ahead. An ideal breakfast should consist of all the essential vitamins, protein, fiber and calcium. They give you the energy boost that you need after eight hours of fasting. However, be careful not to overeat as that again will make you feel sluggish. • Sit at the front: Sitting at the front of the row minimizes distractions caused by whisperers, students listening to music on the sly, texters and others, and is a great tip on how to concentrate in class. Your focus is solely on the board in front of you and the teacher. Moreover, sitting right under the nose of the teacher automatically makes you more conscious of what the teacher is saying. • Be proactive: Active participation in class encourages interactive conversation between students and teachers. Understand the subject at hand and ask questions related to it. Ask the teacher for additional general knowledge around the subject. If possible, start a discussion around the subject. This way, your mind will get tricked into concentrating and help you in improving your memory power. • Notes: Take down notes related to the lecture. This works especially well if you are a kinesthetic learner and don’t know how to concentrate on verbal lectures. Kinesthetic learners are better adapted to visual and active communication than verbal communication. Writing down notes helps in concentrating and absorbing information. • Pinpoint your objective: Every student who has mastered the art of how to concentrate in class knows that setting goals is very important when it comes to learning. As soon as your teacher tells you the subject matter of the day, figure out what you need to know about the topic. As the lecture progresses, you will find yourself asking more questions, thus getting more involved in the class.rnA great motivating factor on how to concentrate in class is to reward yourself at the end of each day with a small indulgence. The thought of the reward will keep you going in every class.
