Gaining abdominal fat is a big problem for both men and women; and this is especially the case for those above 40 years of age. This is partly due to hormonal changes. However, if you were to know how to time your intake and consumption of carbohydrates, you will be able to prevent fat accumulation!

Carbohydrates are definitely crucial nutrients for our bodies to function. When you eat them, they are simply broken down into their smallest units and used by cells in your body as a source of energy.

Now that you have understood the above, you want to avoid starting on an overly low carbohydrates diet. These diets were very popular as they did help people lose weight quickly. However, part of this is explained by the fact that carbohydrates causes your body to retain onto water. This means that if you were to cut back on carbohydrates intake, you actually only reduce mainly your water weight but not fats.

When you go on a restrictive type of diet, your hormones level may be thrown out of balance, causing more damage to your metabolism, making it easier for your body to store the extra carbohydrates you take in into fats instead. Therefore, skipping carbohydrates intake entirely is not a feasible solution.

The following are three ways in which your body actually processes the carbs you take.

First of all, if your body needs a source of energy, they are sent straight to your cells for usage.

Next, if your need for energy is already satisfied, then the remaining carbohydrates goes to your muscles and liver.

When there are even more carbs leftover after the first two needs of your body are met, the remaining ones go into your fat cells for storage. If you are over 40, most of these fats go to your stomach region and you gain belly fat.

The most effective way to prevent this accumulation of fats is to change the timings at which you take your carbohydrates. The best way to do so will be to take most of them early in the morning as your breakfast. You experience the greatest metabolism in the morning right after you wake up, and this is the best chance for you to get in your carbs intake without making yourself fat.

Another great time during which you can eat them without worrying too much about becoming fat is right before a work out. Most of the carbohydrates taken will be burnt off as energy when you engage in an intense exercise session.
