How to Cook Rice without a Rice Cooker

If you are like most people who have food storage, there is a good chance that you have some rice in your food storage cellar or room. However, there is a problem when it comes to cooking rice because chances are, if you have ever cooked rice, it has been through the aid of a rice cooker.

While it is true that rice cookers are easy to use and convenient, there is a possibility that if you are using your food storage, you might not have any electricity, which is what rice cookers typically run off of. The question then becomes how on earth then, do you cook your rice?

Well maybe you have an idea, but just in case here are some steps that will help you to cook your rice without having to use a rice cooker. The best part is it is not all that difficult.

First and foremost, it would be wise to mention that occasionally when you are cooking rice it will either turn out crunchy or watery, which is not how the texture or your rice should be. Therefore, one very nice trick to make sure your rice turns out just right is to add a teaspoon of salt and teaspoon of oil.

Also, before you cook your rice, you will want poor some water in and sift out any little floaters like bugs or rice hulls. Squeeze handfuls of rice so as to clean it all out.

Once you are ready to cook, the simple water to rice ratio is one and half times more water than rice, or some people even like adding two times as much rice as water as rice. From that point you will want to turn the burner to high and bring your water to a boil.

As soon as the water starts to boil, reduce the heat to simmer and cover the pot. Let the rice simmer for ten to twelve minutes, or until the water is absorbed and the rice is soft.

Once you are done, remove the pot from the heat and let the covered pot sit for five minutes, and up to thirty minutes. Allowing the rice to sit will help the moisture to redistribute evenly, which make the rice uniformly tender.

Again, for cooking your food storage rice, all you need is a heat source to boil water and some time. It is a very easy process and can help in times when you are not able to use a rice cooker.
