When a post goes viral, that means it’s getting traffic from multiple sources on the web. People are sharing it, searching for it and linking to it on their websites. Although there’s no exact science on how to make a post "go viral," there are methods that can help boost your article's chances of going the distance.

It Needs to Be a High-Quality Post

Most people want their posts to go viral without knowing why it should go viral. It should be something new, humorous or the content should be a valuable information like a statistic or a case study.

You Need to Promote It

Brian Jackson wrote an article for Medium about his battle with ulcerative colitis. At the end of his article, Jackson referenced the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation (CCFA) and sent them an email, asking if they'd share the article on their Facebook page. The CCFA, which has close to 100,000 Facebook fans, shared the article, and Jackson’s post received over 2000 views in less than 24 hours. rnIt’s not enough to post a link on Facebook and hope for the best. You have to go after your target audience, especially if it's a niche audience.

Other Tips to Keep in Mind

Readers Prefer Lists. Lists are clear and brief, and convey the knowledge in an easy format. Any topic can easily be turned into a list.

Stay Relevant

Information on the Internet moves quickly. Sites like Twitter and Facebook can help you see what topics are currently trending, making it easier for you to create content that people want to read right now.

Know The Strengths of Your Social Media Platforms

Facebook is great for building community and promoting discussions. Twitter is useful for connecting with like-minded people and sharing small bits of information. The two sites are not interchangeable. If you post too many times on Facebook in one day, the site will penalize you, and fewer people will see your posts. If you only share your posts on Twitter once a day, there's good chance no one will see them. You should be tweeting anywhere from three to five times a day.
