If you're like most women, then you have had a yeast infection at some point in your life. However, many women have to deal with them on a repeated basis which is certainly no fun. If you're one of the unfortunate ones that develop frequent yeast infections, these tips may help. If you provide a warm, moist environment for yeast, then they will thrive. With this in mind, you'll need to make sure that you dry off completely after coming from a swim or getting out of the shower. Wearing synthetic underwear can also lead to problems. Wearing underwear made from a material like cotton is much better. Hopefully, you won't be too surprised to find out that your vaginal area is inhabited by bacteria. This bacteria helps keep yeast from growing out of control and leading to an infection. You will want to ensure that you don't do anything to get this balance out of order because it may cause yeast infections. Antibacterial soap does an excellent job as its name suggests, and will help kill your good bacteria. Many women douche too much for their own good which can also cause frequent infections. Scented salts in a bubblebath certainly won't help. Your diet will also play a role in whether you're at risk for developing a yeast infection too. For women who develop yeast infections frequently, eating a lot of sugary items won't help. Restoring the balance of good bacteria and yeast can be done if you eat yogurt that contains active cultures. One of the most effective and convenient ways to practice birth control is to get on the pill. Not all pills are alike though. If you're constantly having to deal with a yeast infection, then it may help to switch to a low-dose birth control pill. The bacteria in your vagina can get out of balance for many different reasons as you have already learned. If your sexual partner uses condoms that contain certain spermicides, then you may have problems. It shouldn't be too difficult to switch to another brand if that's truly the cause. For women who have a compromised immune system for some reason, the likelihood of developing a yeast infection is much higher. HIV, while a serious condition in itself, will leave you susceptible to yeast infections. It's important that you manage your diabetes well if you have it because out-of-control diabetes can lead to these infections. Other health problems that can bring about frequent yeast infections include lupus and Lyme disease.
