Sleeping disorder could be of different types, in some cases, people find it difficult to fall asleep and in some case people often end up sleeping excessively. Narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea and shift work are some of the excessive sleep medical conditions. Narcolepsy is defined as lifelong nervous system disorder that may cause abnormal sleep and hence affecting the quality of life. People with narcolepsy often experience excessive daytime sleepiness and uncontrollable episodes of falling asleep during the day time. Sudden sleep attack might occur to patients while performing any type of activity during any time of day. However, narcolepsy is not a deadly disease itself, but sudden episodes or attacks can lead to life-threatening incidents. rnObstructive sleep apnea or OSA is a condition when the breath becomes very shallow when an individual sleep. It might happen many times to a person during the night. Such condition generally arises when something partly or completely blocks the upper airway of the individual while he or she is sleeping. The blockage make diaphragm and chest muscles work harder to open the airways and pull air into the lings. In most of the cases, breathing usually resumes when the person experiences body jerk, snort or loud gasp. It reduces the flow of oxygen and can also cause irregular heart rhythms. People who usually work in shift face issues with sleeping and are said to be suffering from shift work sleeping disorder or SWSD. The shift work often gets difficult to manage for most of the people as it goes against internal body’s habit and circadian rhythms. It causes difficulties in adjusting the different sleep and wake up schedule and thus resulting in issues like falling asleep, staying asleep and sleeping when desired. Such sleeping problems could be really difficult to manage and can also affect mental health issues or could also lead to physical tiredness. Provigil is proved to be the best medication for treatment of such sleeping disorders. It helps to increase the ability to stay awake and hence is considered as a first choice medication option for decreasing sleepiness. Provigil is a controlled substance and is classified as schedule IV prescription drugs which can be prescribed by a doctor and dispensed by a pharmacist. However, by controlled substance, it means that they can cause physical or psychological dependence on medicine. Some of the common side effects one can experience while consuming Provigil includes, anxiety, loss of appetite, dizziness, upset stomach, back pain and chest pain. However, the severe side effects include heart effects, rashes, and mental health effects. Dosage and timing while consuming Provigil Provigil is approved for the treatment of excessive sleep issues which include narcolepsy, sleep apnea and shift work sleep disorder. If you are taking Provigil to reduce day time sleepiness or when you are suffering from narcolepsy and sleep apnea one must take it in the morning.
