Vacations were easier to plan before having a family. Back then, it was just two of us and the options seemed infinite and the logistics less complicated. You could choose anywhere for a romantic weekend getaway determined by its remoteness and intimacy. You could select somewhere far away and exciting just because you had not been there before. Quite possibly your own best option was to go on extended hiking and camping trips with minimal gear. Even when your vacation organizing was something apart from this, what ever that alternative used to look like before having a family compared to now trying to prepare a family vacation, it truly is a different task now. Now there are a lot more concerns to look at when traveling and planning a family vacation. Depending on the age and number of your children there is a ton of gear that either has to be carried with you on your trip or rented at your final destination. For someone traveling with babies or a 2 or 3 year old, there are considerations about vehicle seats and strollers. For elementary schoolers, you have the concern of trying to keep them occupied instead of driving you lose your mind or destroying something in their quest for something to do. For older children, it can be a little simpler to keep them occupied in the car, train, or plane, but once the end stop is arrived at, then they will want something to do that is fun and that also allows them some independence. After taking into account the children's concerns, there is still the consideration of the parents (and other adults if coming for the trip) who will be seeking a nice combination of family time as a group while still wanting to have some private time as well to remind them of what their pre family vacations where like. We all need to reminisce and remember those days too. Often parents will discount their own requirements in vacation planning to defer to something fun for the kids, while the ideal plan would take both factors into equal consideration. Balancing all the competing demands and desires of the family members to arrive at a family vacation plan that makes all people satisfied or at least reasonably pleased is not always an easy task, and is why family vacation planning can be a a lot more complicated task than necessary. Not just that, but based on the family budget, some vacation plans that may satisfy everyone cannot be considered as viable choices because they are not economically possible. If there are budget constraints, driving for 14 hours at a time with a vehicle loaded of people also requires its own kind of planning for how everyone will stay occupied during the driving portion of the trip. These are just some of the items facing households as they try to select the top vacation destination for them to get the greatest experience possible and make the best memories.
