Do you feel like your home is bursting at the seams and you need to clear the clutter to breathe? Do you have a limited amount of space so your things look cluttered but you need everything you have? Here are 6 ideas on how to declutter your home so you can breathe easier and utilize “hidden” space for storage in your home.

1.Take a good hard look at your “stuff”. Get rid of things you don’t use, don’t like or that have bad memories attached to them. If you have limited amount of space you simply have to have less. So declutter your home by getting rid of the excess. Reduce by recycling, giving to charity or throwing away.

2. Look for spaces where you can store things you need and use. Doors are a great place to store items but they are often over looked. Over the door shoe organizers with pockets are great storage containers for:

·In the bathroom it can hang on the back of the door to contain hair products, personal items, extra soaps, razors, creams and many other items. This is especially useful if there are several people using one bathroom. For children assign them the lower pockets to make it assessable for them to reach.

·In the mud room or family entry way the organizer can hold gloves, keys, or create mail pockets that are labeled for each family member.

·In the bedroom it can be hung on the back of a closet door to actually hold shoes. Or underwear and socks can be rolled and put in the pockets.

·In a craft room craft supplies can be divided into the various pockets keeping them separated and easy to find. Things like ribbon, beads, brackets, and other embellishments fit nicely in this type of organizer.

·In a sewing room the pockets can be used for scissors, thread, bobbins, thumb tacks, templates and other sewing supplies.

·Other over the door storage products includes purse holders to hang a variety of purses from.

3.Corners in rooms are great storage places using just a little storage creativity.

·In the living room, family room or bedrooms put corner shelves. These can hold books or nick knacks. Attractive boxes can hold items and these can be placed on the shelves. They will be decorative and useful at the same time. What a fun way to declutter. Check behind doors to see if there is enough room for a corner shelf that can be used there.

·In the kitchen put a corner shelf on a shelf to double your space for dishes of all sizes and glasses.

·In a bedroom hang a mesh organizer from a hook in the ceiling in the corner to hold toys, clothes or books. They are easy to get in and out of and come in different sizes.

4. Furniture can also be used to declutter your home when it has a dual purpose. An ottoman that has a lid that lifts off can be used not only for feet to rest on but for toys, magazines and other necessary items you want to store and keep accessible at the same time.

5. Hang decorative hooks to hold towels in the bathroom if there is not enough rod space. A free standing coat rack painted the color of the bathroom can hold several towels all at the same time and can be placed in a corner of the room or next to the end of the tub.

6. Do you need to declutter the laundry room? Above the washer and dryer attach a shelf to hold soap, bleach, fabric softeners and other supplies. These can be contained in attractive baskets.

Declutter your home by looking for empty spaces to use as storage and you may feel like you have moved into a larger home without changing addresses.
