Intuition is defined as ‘instinctive knowledge’ or an impression. It is sometimes even referred as one’s inner guidance or voice. Whatever you choose to call it, intuition is unmistakable, as it seems to be a part of human design. It perhaps can be likened to one of our unnamed senses, and believe it or not, you have the capacity to develop it further. Looking back into the past, civilization would not be as far advanced as it is today without this hidden knowledge. Many influential people of our past have given credence to their ability to lend themselves to this remarkable gift. Painters, writers and artists as well as other dominate thinkers and doers of our history have all expressed the importance of how intuition affected their lives. Intuition has been beneficial and in a Christian lifestyle, it is not something that should be shunned or mistaken as a gift from the enemy. This hidden knowledge in human terms is a connection to the subconscious mind but biblically speaking, there is a reason why this ability seems so mysterious and supe atural in its tendencies. Perhaps it is because it is not easily defined or apparent as one may assume, but whatever this is, you can be sure that it is woven into our design by God. “God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand.” 1 Kings 4:29 NIV King Solomon was the wisest man on earth, and yet he did not practice what he preached. God gave him wisdom and insight, something that scripture shows are two distinct abilities of the mind. With wisdom comes understanding and insight comes an intuitive knowledge that is gained from wisdom. Insight is defined as ‘grasping the inner nature of things intuitively.’ Through Solomon’s lifestyle example, we are shown that hidden knowledge can exist with wisdom and helps one to make better decisions, but the niggling feeling deep within is usually ignored. How to develop your God given insight “I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.” Ps 119:19 NIV God’s word is soul food. It is not called the living word without reason. God’s words rest deep within the soul and bring about change over time. This change comes about when one does not just read God’s words, but begins to apply them to daily living. When one stands firm in God’s statues, and allows them to settle within the heart, wisdom is gained and intuition is garnered. Taking time out of your day to focus on God’s word is often times a challenge. Begin your study by calming your mind and getting quiet. Finding a comforting spot in a home full of giggling and fighting sometimes makes it hard to enjoy quiet time alone. Set apart a time for when you can be alone and try to set the frustrations aside for an hour or so. If you find you cannot do that, then begin your time with a prayer of forgiveness and take your worries to God. When you read scripture, retain the historical value, but also allow God’s words to develop around your life personally. Ask yourself and God questions as you read and allow Him to share His important insights that call for change within you. Having an open mind to His guidance and recognizing symbols and thoughts as well as your emotional state play a role in allowing yourself to receive God’s insight. “There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.” Pr 21:30 NIV Lend yourself to trust, hunches, and gut feelings. If you are uncertain about something and it does not feel right for you, then chances are God is trying to steer you out of harms way by way of insight. As much as God will not step over your free will, he can and often does give us warnings and these warnings sometimes come through by the way of this hidden knowledge. Trusting in God’s wisdom is always beneficial because only He can see situations from His multi-faceted perspective. We generally see in two dimensions, our point of view, and the situational point of view. Insight is just another angle that always comes from the right perspective. “The Lamp of the Lord searches the spirit of a man; it searches out his inmost being.” Pr 20:27 NIV Pay attention and be aware. Keeping watch of the situations around you and know how to diffuse them using God’s statues and recommendations. This is essential in allowing God to cause your cup to overflow with insight. It is not physic ability. Insight allows you to make better choices that benefit you that essentially Glorify God. He is faithful to His word, as He is truth and insight always reveals the truth of the situation. “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Ps 121:2 NIV Give credit back to the Lord and extend your gratitude to Him. Commit yourself to prayer daily and even before you go to sleep allow yourself to be thankful and mindful of Him. Ask God to minister to you while you sleep so that you can discover His ways in all you do. “I have hidden your word in my heart so that I might not sin against you.” Ps 119:11 Daily commitment to God is essential to enlisting His help and guidance in all you do. Many people have discovered that jou aling is a wonderful method to help retai God’s wonderful teachings and helps one to internalize God’s word. Benefits from developing God given insight • Insight helps you to relieve stress by directing you to go to the source, God for answers to your problems. • It helps you to develop a general overall well being about yourself, who you are and your capabilities. • You are less likely to empower negative emotions and give into irrational thinking. • Helps you to make better choices and allows for deeper creative and positive thinking. Developing your God given ability within you, like everything you do takes practice and dedication. We are born with this ability and it is something that anyone can embrace. Although it may be naturally weaker or stronger in others, insight always comes from a pure source, God. As subtle as it is, it is a way for us to lean into Him for direction and guidance and can have wonderful inner healing qualities for your mind, body, and spirit.
