So you broke up. This is always painful, even if you are the one to initiate the breakup. Even if there is a good reason (or many) for you two not to be together anymore, it is never an easy thing to work through the aftermath. There will be stages of grieving the relationship, but there are some things that you can do to make the whole process much easier and quicker. Read on to find out some great tips for the best ways of how to feel better after a breakup. 1. Watch Communication - No matter how tempting it is, make sure that you limit overexposure to social media or watching for or sending texts to him or her. If you are still friends on social media sites, then unfriend the ex as soon as possible. Refrain from asking friends what the ex is doing on these sites, and under no circumstances text or call them. 2. No Friend Zone - Do not suggest the possibility that you stay friends. At this point, you do not even know if that is doable. If it becomes possible in the future, after you have healed, then that is a different story. Right now, you need to worry about getting yourself to feel better, and to learn how to move on with your life. Suggesting that you stay friends is just a recipe to keep you hanging on. DO not agree to this if it is suggested by the ex either. 3. Limit Drinking - While you are still working on how to feel better after a breakup, it is best to limit your drinking and make sure that you are with friends when you do so. They can be your shoulders to cry on, and they will prevent you from reaching for the phone if you get the urge to drink and dial. This is definitely not the time to reach out and touch someone, specifically your ex. 4. Get Healthy - In the immediate time after a breakup, there is often the desire to lay around, not get much exercise, and to eat unhealthy snacks and microwaveable dinners. There is a tendency to reach for the worst food choices and to overindulge in food and drink period. Make sure that you nip this habit in the bud after the first few days. Get back to the gym, or start a workout routine if you did not have one before. Get moving by doing some simple stretches in your living room. You will look and feel better, and your ex will probably take notice; however, you will begin to feel so much better about yourself that you will not even care. 5. Keep Busy - Reach out to those supportive friends, and exercise will also help in this area. You will also want to reconnect with old hobbies or start some new ones. Is there a class that you have wanted to take? Now is the time. At first, these types of activities will just occupy your mind with healthier thoughts. Over time, your life will begin to improve and you will enjoy these activities. You will also likely meet new friends and possibly dates when you are ready. These are a few of the concrete ways that you can begin to use right now when you need to know quickly how to feel better after a breakup. After the initial grieving period, you will want to make sure that your days are filled with healthy physical and mental activities. Not only will these help you to heal faster, you will be developing healthy habits that will last a lifetime and contribute to your overall well being. You will be an even better person than before the breakup. Have you used any specific tips to feel better after a breakup? Share them in the comments below.
