How to Figure Out What Job Is Right For Me?

The huge question most of us have once they start collage, what job is right for me? I had the very same question going into, and halfway through the first year. Because I had a decent ability with pcs I thought the logical solution was to go into computer science. Setting up and repairing computers is one thing, programming them is quite another. I lasted a whole two and a half months with the course before I needed to shift programs or else I would have had a GPAlower than my blood alcohol content. The remaining portion of the year I was looking out for a direction to take so I wouldn’t throw away my time and money taking courses I don’t need. I had an approximate idea on what I wanted to do for a career after university, but I had a better idea about what I didn’t want to do. I didn’t decide what kind of program to go into though, and I didn’t realize what different types of jobs there are after getting a certain diploma or degree. I was privileged to be living in residence where there were tons of resources to my disposal. In addition to that there were hundreds of university students experiencing the same thing I was and have made challenging choices before. I talked to my Resident Advisor about the predicament I was having and she highly recommended that I take a career workshop. A career workshop is a class in which you learn what job field is best for you. These people ask you lots of questions based on personality, your weaknesses and strengths, plus your likes and dislikes. At the end they tally up your score and it places you into unique categories that gives you a greater picture of what to do in your future. When I took it I scored 92% in the entrepreneur category. The instructors even had a page full of example professions in each field, and after looking at the entrepreneur category I realized I liked all of those job options. Thus the moment I realized that entrepreneurship or business was suitable for me, only a couple of faculties stood out so I shifted into a business degree and I couldn’t be more happy. Without the particular workshop I wouldn’t have been in a position to realize which path was suitable for me, at least it would have taken me a lot longer. It helped me see my weaknesses and strengths and it taught me to be discover what I was interested in. I always had an idea what it was, but I never could put any words to it. After taking a look online there doesn’t seem to be any decent courses that provided me with results as effective as the ones I acquired from the in person course. At universities, the course is typically free (paid for by your student union) so I recommend everybody to take it if they are mixed-up about their future. If it isn’t free it isn’t a lot of money either, and the 2 hours there can help you save time and money.
