Are you stuck in a rut and simply need to find a new job? Perhaps you're sick of what you're doing and want a new career altogether. Either way, it's possible. Be prepared to spend some time searching for the job you want, because when it comes to locating a job, research is inevitable.
1. Job Portal Websites - Using job portal websites to find the job you want is an effective way to locate employment. Some of the more popular sites include Careerbuilder.com, Monster.com, and HotJobs.com. You may or may not use these sites. Chances are that you may be able to locate some websites for your local area as well.
2. Know What You're Searching For - The best way to know what you're looking for is to search by industry. For example, if you want a job in manufacturing, simply type in "manufacturing positions in (name of city and state)". If you're not sure of the career path you want to take, you may need to take some time to sit down and think about what it is you want to do with your life. There are also numerous free career tests online that you can take as well.
3. Read the Paper - Reading the newspaper is the oldest and most tried-and-true method there is. Fortunately, you can find a plethora of job listings specific to what you're looking for. The only drawback is that you may have to pick up a few local papers for several weeks in a row. Keep in mind that finding a job that you like is a process that takes time. In the end, you want to make sure that you make the best possible choice.
4. Attend Job Fairs - You can find out if, when, and where a job fair will be by simply reading your newspaper. If there is going to be a job fair in your area, attend, as you never know when you will be hired on the spot.
5. Go to the Unemployment Office - People have always found employment at their local unemployment office. There, you can search the computer database for job and speak to job counselors about all of the available options. Some counselors may even recommend that you take a few courses first. Many courses offered at your local unemployment office are paid for by the state. In any event, putting in an application at your local unemployment office may potentially secure you a position with a great company.
6. Search by Location - When you read your local newspaper and search through job portal websites, you may notice that there are tons of jobs in several locations. Too many options makes for an overwhelming job search. To narrow it down, opt to search by area. Asking yourself how far you are willing to drive to and from work everyday is an effective way to decide on the location you prefer to work.
These are just a few of the best tips for finding a job. If you're unsuccessful and have already put in quite a number of applications, you may need to reanalyze your search tactics. You might even be required to go back to school to take a few courses in order to qualify you for your career of interest. No matter what you do, do not settle for less than what you want. At very worst, your search for the right career may take a while, but it will happen.
