Your Primary Care Physician (PCP) is, in all probabilities, the first person you turn to when you are in need of medical consultation. Although PCPs are involved in diagnosing and treating medical conditions that afflict the whole body and in issues related to general health, wellness, and preventive care, they usually specialize in definite medical fields. A PCP specializing in women’s health can provide consultation for medical conditions and diseases like breast cancer, cervical cancer, menopause-related complications and their treatment, ovarian cyst and fibroid treatment methodologies, and many other gynecological problems.

So, how do you find a PCP who specializes in women’s health that you can trust?

When looking for a competent PCP who specializes in women’s health, there is probably no better way to begin your search than by scouting for referrals. You can ask among your female relatives, friends, and co-workers for the names of the physicians that they regularly visit. Ask about their levels of satisfaction and comfort with their physicians and make a careful note as you jot down their names.

While scouting for PCPs who deal in women’s health, you can also browse the Physician Select section of the American Medical Association’s website. You may call up a hospital in your locality and ask for their doctor referral service. Your insurance company will also be able to provide you with a list of PCPs in your community who are experts on women’s health.

After you have shortlisted some PCPs who can provide consultation, diagnostic, and treatment for women’s health conditions, schedule an appointment to learn more about or verify his credentials. And while you are on this visit, check to ensure that the healthcare facility that this PCP is attached to, is equipped with the entire retinue of in-office testing and diagnostic services so that you are spared the running around when recommended multiple diagnostic tests.
