“Not enough space Disk space error” most of the people have encountered this error while using USB drive, memory cards and external hard drive. NTFS stands for New Technology File System and FAT stands for File Allocation Table. In FAT32 the number 32 represents number of bits required to save a single file. • NTFS file system offer better security in comparison to FAT32 file system. Highly secured algorithms are used for encrypting and decrypting data. • NTFS file system can handle large data than the FAT32 system. FAT32 system can handle 4GB of data where as NTFS is capable of handling data up to 2TB. • Inbuilt security and recoverability option are available in NTFS system whereas these features are absent in FAT system. • FAT32 system compatible with older version of windows operating system like Windows 98, window XP but NTFS file system is compatible with all newer version of Windows operating system like Window 7 and Window 8. Steps for Converting FAT32 drive to NTFS drive format: • Click the Start button; go to All Programs and then Click Accessories. • Make a Right Click on Command Prompt and then select “Run as Administrator”. • Then a black screen appears in your computer i.e. Command Prompt Window. Convert command to change FAT32 into NTFS format:rn1. “Convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs” in place of drive_letter you have to write the letter of your drive which you want to convert. Use this command without quotes.rn2. For example: convert H: /fs:ntfs this command will convert the H drive into NTFS format. • If your disk is full then you will receive an error message, for resolving it you can delete unnecessary files, copy files on another location. • Then after few minutes the conversion process will be completed and a message appears in command prompt showing the conversion is successful. • You can check whether your drive is in NTFS or FAT32 by following the steps mentioned below:rn1. Click Start button and then open “My Computer”.rn2. Right click on the concerned drive and then open Properties.rn3. Click on the General tab and in the File System option you can check whether your drive is NTFS or FAT32.rnBy following the above mentioned steps you can easily convert FAT32 to NTFS file system without any loss of data. You can also use this method for converting your USB drives and other external storage drives into NTFS format .I have used this procedure on my PC and it worked flawlessly.
