If you like adventure and you want to move around Bali in public transport, it is important to know that the island has a very poor public transport, a fact that causes a waste of time to go from one place to another and cannot get to all the sites you want. It is the most economical way to get around Bali, but we recommend that you take special care with public transport, in fact, it is better to travel by private transport, as we will explain below.

Public buses in Bali

The Bali bus service offers routes throughout the island from the Denpasar Terminal Station. Normally public buses take a lot more people than they should go and do not have air conditioning, this makes the route much longer than it seems. Also, they usually make a lot of stops. Going by public transport through Bali can be a bit overwhelming, but it is economical and a good experience to learn more about the life and culture of the Islanders.

Bemos (minivans)

In Bali, there is also what Westerners understand by minivans, what they call Bemos. These mini-vans offer regular services of short distances, normally between towns. They are also full of people and do not have air conditioning, but the price is also very cheap (prices vary depending on the distance to travel).

Dokar (the wagons)

The Dokar are horse-drawn carts and were the old transports that were in Bali. They are normally used for urban transport and are not very expensive.

Private buses and tours

There are different agencies that offer Cheap tourist bus rentals in Jakarta and Bali for daily trips in cars and buses with a local driver.

Taxis in Bali

In Bali, the official taxi service is only easy to find in the Kuta area since in the rest of the island the taxis are usually private. For 30 euros you can find a taxi that takes you all day long to the places you want with the gasoline included. The price is quite similar to that of car rental and is usually paid in advance. It is important to note that taxi drivers sometimes want to cheat tourists by saying prices that are much more expensive than they are. That is why it is important to accept the price of the tour before hiring the taxi and asking for the fares from more than one taxi driver. If you can hire an official taxi company from the hotel better than better.

Rent a motorcycle in Bali

This is one of the most familiar ways of getting to know the island of Bali; in fact, it is becoming highly famous among tourists. Renting a motorbike for a day costs less than 10 euros, although that also depends on your ability to haggle. Anyway, if you travel to Bali during the rainy season it is better not to rent a motorcycle, as it can be dangerous. Keep in mind that you will be able to avoid traffic if you like a bike, but you must watch out as it is very easy to have an accident.

Boats and ferries Bali

To visit neighboring islands you will have to travel by boat or ferry, but make sure you travel with accredited companies since many of them are not registered and accidents have been registered.
