The supply of energy is going down by the day. There will come a day in the near future when all the non-renewable energy sources will die out. It is best at this time to opt for renewable energy such as solar power. The home renewable solar energy panels can look expensive but you should keep in mind those ten years down the line, this investment will seem miniscule as compared to the petrol or diesel rates. There are a number of advantages of solar energy. The first one is that it happens to be either free or cheap. The storage facility for your solar power is provided by a certain bank, which contains deep cycle batteries made of lead- acid. These batteries are specifically designed so that they can easily recharge as well as discharge. For those who find the solar batteries expensive, all you have to do is visit a golf course or a marine equipment centre. These batteries are a rage here and you are sure to find discarded ones, which you can use with a little tweak. Once you posses the discarded batteries, test them for faults. All you have to do is connect them to a charger and let the panel charge. When you measure the voltage after this, it should range at around 12 volts. Make sure to clean the plates as the lead plates get contaminated due to a chemical process known as sulfating which leads to a layer of lead sulfate crystals existing on the plate even when it is fully charged, a phenomenon which is best avoided. It reduces the span of time in which your batteries can hold their charge. Make sure you renew the electrolyte and charge your batteries. If that works, you have your free solar batteries ready for use.
