There is a test that you need to take at either the end of your second or third year in undergrad school. The OAT test is something you really need to study for as it will help you when you need to actually get into optometry school. There is also an option to actually have the test results sent to your preferred schools. You should take them up on that offer as it will cut back on the work you need to do. You also need time under your belt with professional optometrists. You need to spend at least thirty hours of hands on time, so that you have experience and to make sure that this is the field for you. When it comes to the schools, the standards do vary. It is important to take the time to see what is outlined per school so that you do not forget anything. Getting these things done will help in the long run.

Send Out Your Applications:

When you finally hit your 4th year, you are going to need to work on the applications and send them out. Applications to these schools typically involve response to essay questions as well as a personal statement. Make sure that these both are written properly and try not to sound naïve about your goals and other responses. Make sure that you have all of the necessary official transcripts ahead of time. You are going to need to have them printed to send them along with however many applications need sending out. Concentrate on your references. You can have all types that concentrate on your talents in that area. This means that you can have professional, personal, and educational references that are reliable and can really sell you. This is not the time to strictly use personal references, as they need to know about your work ethic and intentions.

Interviews:

Once you have your applications out, you should be getting phone calls for interviews in January. Preplan far ahead enough to have the money to pay for travel expenses as well as food and somewhere to stay. Keep relaxed and make sure that you have one of the best interviews you could have. It is natural to be nervous, just do not let it mess up the interview.

School selection:

There are plenty of schools out there. If you give a good interview, you are going to get several offers. Pick the school that offers the best program for you. In the end, you'll either be selling eyeglasses st Louis or making good money in a doctor's office.
