In this world, many things have changed over the centuries, decades or years to be, as change is the only constant!! And in today’s fast-paced world, there are uncountable things happening in a blink of an eye! You, me and everyone has evolved in our way to live up to the changes. But while we have reached for the moon, we do not know how to change our own bad habit or flaw which we have noticed happen repeatedly by us, again and again, and want to get rid of it. Param Pujya DadaBhagwan, an enlightened being gives certain simply strategic ways to get rid of our weaknesses. He has simplified this complex problem for us and has provided us a 4-step solution, which we can apply in our practical life and get the desired result out of it. So what are the 4 steps? 1.Firm determination to get rid of the bad habit- rnTo be aware of the flaw in itself is a very big thing. It means that you realize your flaw at the personal level, which is the stepping stone to get rid of it. Now, make a firm determination to get rid of your flaw or bad habit. For instance, you want to get rid of your bad habit of smoking. Then, make a firm determination in your mind that, “I want to quit my bad habit of smoking!” 2.Finding ways on how that bad habit is wrong-rnLet’s continue with the example of smoking. Find out information on how smoking is wrong or bad for you. This shall develop a deeper level of understanding within you, which will help you get rid of your bad habit soon. Inspite of the understanding, for some time you may still be driven to smoking. However, you continue to boost your right understanding. Whenever the mind tries to convince us to smoke, if we have a good basic understanding on the hazards of smoking or convincing beliefs of why we should stop smoking, it will work against the craving of our mind and gradually, we will get rid of the bad habit or flaw. 3.Asking for forgiveness-rnWhen we are driven to smoking, knowing the cause of why are we so much driven to it, and thereafter solving the cause, will help us get away from the bad habit. In the past, knowingly or unknowingly, we have formed strong opinions in favour of how smoking is good, which is why we are driven towards it and cannot get rid of it. We should now ask for forgiveness for indulging in this bad habit, from whichever God we have faith in; and also ask for strength from God, to never ever smoke again. Each time we do so, one layer of our opinion that ‘smoking is good’, gets removed and our future too gets secured. 4.Accepting our flaw when highlighted- rnMost of the times, we do not like when people target on our weaknesses. However, accepting our flaw when highlighted, is one of the surest ways to get rid of it. For example, you are decided you want to quit smoking. Now, when your friend or anybody else points out your weakness, then instead of rejecting him or showing him his flaw in return, if you accept that “Yes, it is a bad habit, I’m really trying hard to get rid if it”, you are said to be against your weakness. This acceptance of our mistake and registering our opposition towards it, suggests that now, we are ruling over our weakness, and it’s not the other way round any more. And when we do not accept our bad habit or flaw in front of others, we are internally protecting and supporting our weakness, which actually extends the habit that we are wanting to get rid of, for long. Smoking was just an example illustrated. These steps are applicable on all kinds of bad habits or flaws.rnThe whole process of above four steps is very scientific. At times, one may feel that after doing all this, there is no change in my behavior. However, keep on with it as it is working inside, although on the outside, it may seem to be taking you a little longer, if the bad habit has strongly engulfed you.
