So you got dumped. Maybe you could move on with your life. Pull yourself together and trudge through work, school, and so forth. But every you log onto an online website to update your status or see what your friends are up to, there he is.
It’s a hard reminder of your break up. Every time you sign on and see a picture of him out hitting on girls from last weekend or one of those nauseatingly cute photos of him with his new girlfriend, it makes you want to just delete your account and crawl under a rock.
Well, what are you supposed to do? You can’t just become a digital hermit, can you?
The first thing you should realize that un-friending him or blocking him is only going to make you seem angry or like there is a lot of negative emotions between you. If you have any intention of staying friends or getting back together, this is not what you want to do.
Instead, change your display settings so that you don’t get updates from him. You can stay friends with someone in most social networks without being bombarded by their updates. You also have to have the strength to not actively look at his account for the time being too.
Let’s face it, you need time to heal from the break up and pull your life back together. Constantly being reminded of him and how he’s moving on isn’t going to help you. This is really the best way to manage yourself online during the next few weeks until you feel prepared to open the lines of contact again.
If you want to get him back, you also want to continue using your social networking websites to paint a positive picture of your life. Post photos of you being happy and outgoing.
Avoid posting those vague, depressing status updates like “You think you got the last laugh, but karma is real.” Not only does no one really know who this is directed at, but it also seems incredibly negative (not something you want people associating with you).
So the best course of action is to limit your exposure to your ex during the weeks directly following the break up. You also want to portray a positive and upbeat attitude online since this will make it seem like you are an optimistic person rather than a downer.
