There is a psychology to the reason why people buy things. To tap into that psychology you must put yourself in the place of the buyer and ask yourself; why did I buy that particular car, or home or electronics? Also, why did I buy that item from that particular seller?

Is it because you liked product, or customer service, or the price?

Did that item solve your immediate problem without having to buy another item?

Was there a low risk aspect in the form of a warranty or money back guarantee?

Did the seller seem sincere?

Did they seem to have thorough knowledge about that product or service?

Were they patient with you when you asked them so many questions about their business?

Did make you feel you are not obligated to buy or were they pushy?

The answers to these questions will help you to re-evaluate what you sell and how you are selling. Doing more promotions to get more people through the door is not as important as making sure your products and service and presentations are second to none.

You add more value to your products when you establish yourself as a credible dealer. Becoming a member of the Better Business Bureau shows buyers that you have been validated by a third party organization and shows potential customers that you are trustworthy.

Publish free articles, offer samples or free advice on topics related to what you sell may attract more interested persons to your establishment or website. This will in turn bring you lots of leads which you can later convert into sales.

Years ago I walked into a Radio Shack because I saw an attractive cell phone in the window. The sales person was a guy who was so professional, humerous and had such a bright personality that I walked in and bought that cell phone on the spot. And this was my first cell phone ever.

Every customer that walks through your door and every visitor to your website is first of all a person looking for something to solve a problem or fill a need, not a meal ticket. You treat that person as though they are special and they will never forget you.

We all know that the best form of advertising is word of mouth. When people like your customer service approch they will tell others about your business. So the key to increasing your sales begins with examining the overall operation of your business.

Depending on what you are selling, you can make a good living on less floor traffic and more attention to your products and sales approach.
