Make-up application is a lot easier with the use of good make-up brushes. Brushes provide a more precise application of make-up. It also allows good blending. Sometimes, make-up brushes can be a little expensive, especially if you want to invest in long-lasting brushes. That is why it is important to keep our make-up brushes clean, because they are your investments. To increase the life span of your make-up brushes, you do not only have to buy good make-up brushes, but you have to learn to take care of them. Taking care of your brushes is also taking care of your own skin, because dirty make-up brushes could ruin your skin or give you bad allergies. Unclean brushes have bacteria left in the surface, and every time you put on your make-up with them, the bacteria transfer onto your face. The bacteria will keep building up until you clean your brushes. Clean brushes actually work better, since no color or product has been left in them. Whatever type of make-up brush you own, you have to clean it regularly. Foundation, concealer, eyeliner (gel liner), and cream shadow brushes have to be cleaned daily. Lip brushes ideally have to be cleaned after use, as they are closest to your mouth, where contamination would be direct. Eyeshadow, blush-on, kabuki and blending brushes, or most brushes that you don’t use liquid with can be cleaned every three days or at least once or twice a week. Most make-up experts recommend using a shampoo in cleaning the brushes, because after all the brushes are made with hair. However, since shampoos are not exactly anti-bacterial, bacteria may still be left on the surface of the brushes. Shampoo is not also a very ideal cleaning agent because it can wash away the natural oils in a brush, and soon you will find your brush dry and brittle. Ideally, a moisturizing, anti-bacterial liquid soap is good for the brushes. Some experts even recommend using a anti-bacterial dishwashing soap, mixed with a bit of olive oil. The dishwashing soap will kill the bacteria, while the olive oil will moisturize the brush hairs. You could also use a anti-bacterial hand wash, since most of these washes have moisturizing agent in them already. To clean the brush, tap off excess powder. On a plate, apply the hand wash or dishwashing wash with a little bit of olive oil. Brush your make-up brush in circular motions around the plate. You will be able to see colors/pigments on them. When you think you have washed enough, rinse with running water. Running water will completely rinse off colors and you will be able to see if the brush is clean by looking at the color of the water. You can repeat soaping the brush if you desire. Once rinsed, you may now put your brush on glass with the brush facing down. This will allow th brush’s excess water to fall. Water can damage the natural glue on the brush and that will cause the hair to fall. Don’t put under sunlight. Allow the brush to air dry. Cleaning the tools you use will provide you with a more natural looking make-up application. It will also help you be safe from bacteria that can damage your skin.
