How to Lay Cutlery and Create Silverware Napkins Rolls Beautiful Table Setting

The way you set your table, whether it's for everyday decor or a formal dinner party, largely depends on your decorating style, the formality you want to convey and your choice of cutlery and silverware. Cutlery is one of the essentials of a well-laid table. Here are some useful tips to help you set a table.

First, plan a menu and then consider the cutlery for your guests. A typical menu may include a salad and soup, followed by the main course and dessert. Each guest will need a salad fork, a soup spoon, a dinner knife and fork, and a dessert spoon and fork.
Start from the left. Lay the salad fork two to three inches from the dinner plate. The dinner fork goes next; place it between the salad fork and the dinner plate.

Place the soup spoon to the right, two to three inches from the dinner plate. Place the dinner knife between the soup spoon and the plate. With this arrangement, your guests can use their outermost cutlery first, working inward as the courses are served.

Place the dessert fork and spoon above the plate. Once the dinner plates and cutlery have been cleared, your guests will have easy access to these before dessert is served. If serving bread or rolls, place a butter knife across the bread basket, which is placed above and to the left of the main setting.

After the selection of cutlery, consider decorating your table by rolling silverware in napkins. Here is how you can roll silverware in napkins.

Stack the silverware by placing the spoon on top of the fork, and the fork on top of the knife. Lay your napkin out flat so that it looks like a diamond. Place the stack of silverware on the far right hand corner of the napkin, leaving enough of the corner free so that you can tightly tuck it over the top of the middle of the stack.

Tuck the corner of the top of the stack tightly so that the silverware stays neatly stacked. Roll the stack of silverware tightly to the middle of the napkin. Pull the bottom corner of the napkin up and tuck it tightly into a roll. Continue to roll the silverware until the whole napkin is rolled. Place a napkin ring around the middle of the rolled silverware to keep it in place.
