Many people believe that the primary cause of osteoporosis is the lack of calcium in their diet. While it is important to consume the daily requirement of calcium, it is only a small piece of the overall puzzle.

While taking calcium supplements can certainly help with bone health there are other dietary conce
s and habits that should to be examined. In this article, you will learn about which foods contribute to healthy bones and which foods to avoid.

Did you know the primary dietary cause of osteoporosis is eating foods that are highly acidic in nature? This means the consumption of certain foods such as cookies, candies, sweets, refined white sugar, refined white flour, high-fructose corn syrup, soft drinks and anything containing sweeteners may contribute to osteoporosis.

The over-consumption of these products or foods containing them can cause the pH level in your blood to become very acidic. As the acidity level in your blood rises, your body attempts to counterbalance this inequity and reaches out for any calcium and magnesium it can find. Once it finds these compounds from other parts of your body it will harvest them and then releases them into your bloodstream in an attempt to restore the pH level to a healthy balance.

Once the calcium and magnesium from various parts of your body enters the bloodstream in an attempt to counteract this acidic environment they will eventually get passed to your kidneys to be eliminated from your body through urine. Unfortunately this buildup of calcium and magnesium can also contribute to kidney stones. Therefore, with every soft drink, candy, cake and goodie you indulge in, you could be robbing your skeleton of its bone density.

The first step to preventing bone mass due to dietary habits is to simply avoid consuming any white flour, processed sugars, added sugars, soft drinks, candies, sweets or any other ingredients that are made with refined carbohydrates.

The second step is to begin eating certain super foods that are a natural source of calcium and magnesium. These types of foods will help keep the pH balance in the body at a healthy equilibrium. Cabbage, broccoli, celery and other dark green leafy vegetables can help balance out the pH in the body. You may also consider adding various sea vegetables including kelp and seaweed to your diet. These food selections are naturally alkaline.
