Another change you can make is to start eating some walnuts daily. Studies have shown that if you eat a few walnuts on a daily basis within four weeks, you can greatly reduce your cholesterol levels. Walnuts also help keep blood vessels healthy, which in turn keeps the remaining healthy.
Although the effects vary between individuals, there is evidence to suggest that substances called plant sterols and stanols LDL cholesterol can help reduce up to 10-15% of 2g per day is regularly used as part of a healthy balanced diet. Stanols and sterols are certain foods including margarines, spreads, soft cheeses and yogurts.
However, remember that these products are not for a healthy, balanced diet, or change the cholesterol-lowering drug substitute. If you decide to use these products, make sure that you follow the manufacturer's instructions on the amounts you need to consume each day in order to provide you with 2 g of plant stanol or sterol.
