Not everyone has the luxury of having an exciting work life, but even the most boring desk job can become interesting when you know how to overcome boredom at work. And before you even think about popping pills to raise you energy level, why don’t you give these tips a try first? Read on to find out how to overcome boredom at work. Tip # 1: Make Friends. Having friends in the workplace can make work more fun. With friends, even the dullest assignments can become interesting. It might not always keep you awake (especially if your co-workers are feeling dull themselves), but at least you can have someone to talk to when the boredom kicks in. Just initiating a conversation with your co-workers can spark interest back in your work. Tip # 2: Go For A Short Walk. Not everyone is blessed with a flexible schedule; but surely, you can take five minutes off from your desk to walk around. Use this time to wash your face and maybe do a couple of easy subtle exercises to bring your energy level up. I suggest stretching your limbs a little bit, nothing strenuous, but just enough to heat you up. Tip # 3: Decorate Your Desk. Here's an interesting way on how to overcome boredom at work - have several interesting knickknacks on your desk, or at least, hidden inside your drawer. Having pictures helps. You can also stash a few items inside your drawer to help shake you awake. A comic book here, a puzzle there. Just make sure that your boss is nowhere in sight when you give yourself a little mid-work “break.” Tip # 4: Sleep Earlier. One of the most common reasons why people get bored at work is because they didn’t get enough sleep the night before. Taking a nap on your desk is, of course, not recommendable (unless it's break time); so do your best to get a good night’s sleep before you go to work everyday. Tip # 5: Eat Breakfast. Another effective way to overcome boredom at work is by having breakfast. Choose clean high-energy meals like oatmeal and eggs to help boost your interest and productivity at work. Don't eat too much though, because overeating can make you feel sleepy. Be wary of sugary products like cereals because sugar tends to bring your energy up and down. These are some of the most effective ways you can try to make work more interesting and be more productive. However, you have the license to become as creative as you want to be. Since you alone know your work best, you’ll have the best idea on how to overcome boredom at work.
