How to Overcome Mental Obstacles, Destructive Criticisms, and Negative Judgments

"The only infallible criterion of wisdom to vulgar judgments--success." -Edmund Burke, Letter to a Member of the National Assembly, 1791.

No one needs to tell you that it is difficult to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. No one needs to tell you that it is an almost impossible task to overcome the odds that are stacked against you. No one needs to tell you that it is a daunting task to overcome a brick wall that is determined to hinder and block your path. Although it is daunting, difficult, or almost impossible, a person can still overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Here are the tips you should bear in mind when attempting to do this:

*Change your thinking or mindset. The best way to do this is to read and use self-help, self improvement or personal development books, tools, and resources. These resources will help you to change your mindset because they teach you how to identify causes and effects of your present thought patterns and how to change these.

*Be solution-oriented instead of problem oriented. Instead of focusing on the problem, focus on the opportunity of discovering a solution for this problem, as well as the rewards and benefits of discovering such a solution. Brainstorm either by drawing diagrams, making mental maps or discussing ideas with friends or family members.

*Have trust and confidence in your ability or power to overcome the obstacles, destructive criticisms, or negative judgments that beset you. Make positive affirmations that affirm your confidence or belief that you are able to overcome every challenge which appear to oppose you while attempting to move towards your success and life purpose. You can even write and design a contract. This contract should have stipulated terms, which should motivate and empower you to develop the confidence needed to overcome any challenge and obstacle. This contract should be signed and dated by you and the terms repeated aloud every day as personal affirmations.

*Be persistent in achieving goals related to overcoming obstacles. I read in Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich that a man missed out on owning a gold mine because he gave up digging when he was three feet away from the gold vein in the earth. If you give up and refuse to persist while attempting to overcome challenges you will definitely miss out on a life-changing opportunity. You could be just three feet away from gold. So, never give up!

*Be disciplined and focused. When attempting to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles or challenges, one of the things that is required is discipline. The next one is focus. Everyone wants to be successful. Everyone wants to be an achiever. But hardly anyone wants to develop the discipline or focus required to become a success or achieve anything valuable. Sadly, these criteria are often lacking when a person desires success. They might have intelligence, talents, or special skills but they often lack focus or discipline. Always remember that talent, intelligence, or special skills are not a replacement for discipline or focus while on the road to success. Talent, intelligence, or special skills might get you to success but discipline and focus keep you there.
