Everyone looks forward to the spring time, the long winter is over, the leaves return, flowers begin to bloom, it's a wonderful time of year and the perfect chance to showcase your garden. But, before you can get going on all that spring time planting and maintenance it is best to do a full spring cleaning before you get started. Spring cleaning helps to clear out the old and tidy up the areas around the yard so that everything can be planted or has room to bloom over the summer months. In order to properly perform a spring cleaning, the very first thing you are going to want to do is to gather up all of the dead leaves that have been left on the ground since they fell in the fall and were covered with snow during the winter months. A quick bit of raking should be able to get all the leaves up into some piles, and from there they can then be transferred to garden bags for recycling, disposal, whichever method your town permits. When you are getting ready to plant your garden, you want to make sure you have cleared all the area of debris and gotten right down to the dirt. This is going to allow you to have much easier access to planting and will let you get a nice aerated layer of dirt resting on the top of the seeds, rather than hard packed dirt. Early in the spring, you can begin getting the dirt bed ready for planting, and then start laying seeds, depending on your climate. In a few months, you will have a lovely and well maintained garden bursting with fresh vegetables to enjoy. While you are working on your garden, now can be the time to take care of the rest of your yard as well by fixing up the flower beds, clearing out debris, and cleaning the gutters of fallen leaves and sticks from winter storms. Consider getting a bunch of bulk bags and use them to clear away grass clippings, or to hold mulch or wood chips while they are being spread around the yard, and to hold recyclables. Pick up any fallen tree branches and prune anything that looks like it got a bit overgrown since the last year or so. It really shouldn't take more than just an afternoon to get things cleared up, and it will make a really big difference for the rest of the year. Not only will your yard and garden look great and present a really nice curb appeal, it will be much easier to perform a casual pick up around the yard every few months. Once you do make it a practice to do a bit of a seasonal pick up around your yard, you should certainly invest in some garden bags to make removal a lot easier. From there, you will be set to spend the rest of the season enjoying your yard with a good book and plenty of relaxation!
