How To Put A Bias Tape

Let's sew a bias step by step!
Step 1. There are several ways to sew a bias tape but in this case we will see how to put it on the fabric. Step 2. The first thing we are going to do is place the bias on the edge of the fabric, placing it straight with the right and opening the fold near the edge. Step 3. We pass a stitching along the fold line Step 4. If we turn the fabric we will see the stitching that we have just done and that will be the one that serves as a reference line to sew the other side of the bias. Step 5. We have to fold the bias over the edge of the fabric and sew it above the stitching we have done before with a new stitching that will be seen above the bias. We have to try to make this new stitching close to the edge of the bias. Now let's imagine that we have to sew a bass or something where the contour is circular, that is, closed. If we start sewing the bias tape at the end you will find both ends. What do we do in that case? As you can see in the photo I have two ends of the bias tape facing each other. We are going to place a reference pin on the fabric where the junction of the two ends of the tapes is supposed to be. We have to cut both sides of the bias 1 cm exceeding the point of the pin. This centimeter will be the seam allowance when we have to join both sides of the bias. We cut one side first and then the other. We put both sides of the ribbons right with the eyelashes fully open and we pass stitching at the seam allowance so that they are joined. Now we can finish sewing the bias tape as we have done in the first steps! It does not stop here. Sometimes we might want to create our own bias tape so let's see how we could do it. As I told you at the beginning of the post, the first thing you have to know is that a bias tape is nothing more than a strip of tissue that has been cut on the bias in a normal cloth, that is, instead of being cut following the thread of the fabric to maintain stability, has been cut following the diagonal (the bisector) between the weft and the warp of the fabric. Being cut in this way, on the bias, the fabric deforms more and is, therefore, more adaptable in for example curved areas.Further reading
