When it comes to washing the clothes not too many people think about the cost involved. If you sit down and think about it each load of laundry that you do will cost you a few dollars. If you calculate the costs from start to finish you can see how the costs add up. The first expense is the water and electricity from the wash machine, then the cost of laundry detergent soap, and the fabric softener. Now we move the clothes to the dryer and toss in an anti-static sheet, or a bounce sheet and run it. The electricity from the dryer will also crank up the cost of your total load. Now lets look at reducing expenses
The first tip to save money when doing laundry is to do full loads each time, by doing a full load you reduce the total amount of loads you will have to do in a year and if you add up all the loads you keep yourself from doing you will save a lot of money (and time as well). If you have to do a smaller load you can save money by changing the settings to not put so much water in the machine, or not run for as long for the washer and dryer.
Another great tip for saving money is to reduce the amount of liquid laundry detergent you use, laundry detergent can cost quite a bit of money and many people pour in way to much. Think about this, if you buy new laundry detergent each week, and start using half the amount of detergent each time, then at the end of the year you would have purchased 26 fewer jugs of detergent and probably saved about $200.
Another tip to save money on electricity is to use cold water with your loads. Many machines now will do a great job washing your clothes in cold water, and they even have cold water soap. Cold water is better for your clothes, better for the environment and also better on your wallet. If you use cold water you will reduce the use of your hot water heater which saves you money.
The last tip that I have that will probably save you the most amount of money is to look for coupons and deals when you are shopping for laundry detergent, soap, fabric softener and other laundry necessities. One very easy way to save money is to just look for deals in your local fliers and online. If you find a sale where something you use anyways is on sale then you can buy four or five of them to take advantage of the deal. Sometimes I can find my favorite detergent for 50% off, and then I will buy as much as the store allows.
The last tip is to find and use coupons. If you check your local fliers or search online for laundry detergent coupons you can usually find a few that will be applicable to your normal shopping. To find coupons online you can search on google for the brand you buy, or visit your brands official website and look for a coupons and promotions page.
