If you are about to move, you need to be sure that you are choosing the right moving company for you. No company fits every move perfectly. You can’t hire a guy with a pickup truck to move all of your possessions across the country, and you don’t need to hire ten different semi trucks to move to an apartment down the street. Here’s some things to consider: Quantity of Stuff When you are moving, you need to consider how much stuff you are taking with you, and plan accordingly. If you have no furniture and are just moving across town to a fully furnished apartment, you really only need to make a few trips with a utility van or pickup truck to get the job done. However, if you have a fully furnished four bedroom house, you should hire a professional moving crew and a semi truck to do the heavy lifting for you. The point is, figure out how much stuff you have and how far you need to move it before spending any money on a moving company. Trustworthiness of the Moving Company You also need to consider how trustworthy the company is. Talk to people who have recently moved and ask them about the quality of your movers. Chances are, a few of the might tell you that some fancy silverware or jewelry got “lost in the move”. Make sure you pick a company that doesn’t have a reputation of “loosing” things when they move. Getting the Right Help The company that you hire should provide movers to do the lifting and truck driving for you, unless you specifically plan to rent a box van or truck and do the move yourself. Unless you are unable to afford a moving crew, this isn’t recommended, as there are so many things that need to get done during a move that it will only create more work for you. Courteous Movers Make sure that the company is courteous. Many people have had problems where a moving company looks good on paper, e.g. they are reasonably priced and provide a large truck, but in reality they are vulgar and unprofessional while they work. This is just another thing that creates a hassle for you. Look for a company that has been working in the area for a while. A company who knows the area is likely going to know the best routes for driving large trucks, meaning they will spend a minimum amount of time driving on twisting back streets, and will be able to safely get your things from your old residence to your new house or apartment. Safety and Protection Finally, make sure that when you are choosing the right moving company that the company has a reputation of delivering things in one piece. Nothing is worse than having something broken in a move. You also want to make sure they have good driving records, put safety concerns first and makes sure that they never take risks with your stuff or their safety.
