When it comes to shaving, 9 out of 10 men shave in the wrong way. They either shave in a haphazard manner that leads to random strands of hair poking out or else they try too hard to eliminate all visible hair. This involves putting more pressure on the razor and moving it over the face many times. Apart from increasing the likelihood of cuts, this method makes the facial area darker over time. Also with every shave, the hair tends to grow faster and thicker which means that with every extra stroke will be causing you extra shaving time in future.
Shaving is an art which has to be mastered via experience because no one is going to stand beside you and tell you how to shave. There is every chance of you cutting yourself in the first few attempts but this in itself scares of people who then tend to see a shave without cuts as an achievement. They then take it as a benchmark and the odd day when the notice that the shaving isn’t proper, they try harder, more often than not cutting themselves. So for all poor souls who wish to be guided on the art of shaving, the following know guide will train you in the right method of shaving.
There are certain pre-requisites for becoming a clean shaver, the first and foremost among this is to enjoy shaving. Till the time you don’t enjoy shaving, you will struggle with it. Another very important factor that many people tend to forget is the lighting of the place where you are shaving. Regions on the face which don’t receive adequate lighting are often missed and remain unshaven. So ensure that your shaving place is sufficiently illuminated.
Before you start shaving, wash your face with hot water and then with soap. This act allows the hair on the face to stick up thus making shaving all the more easier. Following this, apply shaving cream all over your face with the help of a shaving brush (the brush should a good amount of bristles so as to generate sufficient lather). Thereafter start shaving and in this respect, the shaving blade that you adopt is of utmost importance. Your razor blades should be sharp and more importantly it should pivot itself according to the shape of the face.
Start shaving from the neck as it the most difficult area to shave and do this with the bottom side of the razor facing upwards. Additionally while shaving tough spots, tighten your skin for a closer shave. Gradually move up, gently penetrating the skin with each stroke. Clean the blades once every 2-3 strokes to wash off the accumulated hair. While shaving facial skin, glide along the length of the skin and following each stroke, clean the blades. Also the facial strokes should be gradual and gentle to ensure that every strand of hair is removed. Following completion of shaving, rinse your face with cold water and then apply an aftershave. One more piece of advice – Rather than buying cheap blades that are rendered useless after one or two shaves, buy quality blades such as Braun shavers (even though they are more costly) that last for a longer period of time. In the long run, this would prove to be more beneficial than blades which need to be thrown away within days of use.
