Snoring comes naturally in almost every one. The main reason would be due to the muscles in the throat relaxing and narrowing the air passage thus leading to snoring. Though it is not harmful it ban sometimes be a nuisance to the person we share the room or bed with. Here are a few tips on how to prevent snoring:
1. Experts recommend sleeping on sideways and not on your back. It is advisable to stitch a tennis ball on the back of your shirt so that you will sleep sideways as this stop snoring.
2. Consumption of alcohol and sleeping pills should be avoided as they relax the muscles in your nasal system.
3. Try using a thick pillow or multiple pillows to evaluate your head.
4. Avoid diary products before sleeping as they can cause mucus.
5. Losing some weight would be good as fats in your air passage will be reduced.
6. Have a good uninterrupted sleep of at least eight hours.
7. Your throat should not be congested. Use a humidifier in your room and inhale steam before sleeping.
8. Eating rich food like cakes, pizzas and chocolates at night should be avoided.
9. Eating a little honey before sleeping may be fruitful.
10. Try not to sleep right after a heavy meal. If your stomach is full it will push up on your diaphragm and block the air passage.
11. Nasal strips are available in the market. This opens your nostrils and is a good aid to prevent snoring.
12. It is wise to quit smoking as they swell up the throat and cause inflammation.
13. You can also you anti-snoring pills or spray.
14. If all else fail, you can consider consulting a doctor as you may also suffer from sleep apnea which is a sleeping disorder that makes you stop breathing for a few seconds leading to snoring. Though harmless it can increase with age.
Ajwain seeds also known as Bishop’s Weed are used as spice as well as for medications. They are small and taste hot and bitter. It is an effective remedy for different health related problems such as:
Stomach: Pain due to gas, indigestion and infections can be relived by taking one spoon of Ajwain seeds with two or three pinches of salt and mixing them with warm water. It can also be taken with buttermilk.
Respiratory: In case of common cold we can keep powders of Ajwain seed in a cloth and smell them to give relief to the nostril. People suffering from asthma and bronchitis can make a paste by mixing it with jaggery. Two spoons of this paste everyday reduce the mucus and are also good for chronic cold. Diabetes person a re not advised to use this due to sugar content. For cough having the seed with betel nut or water is good. If you ever got the flu then boiled water with 3gms of Ajwain and 3gms of Cinnamon bark for 3 days is recommended.
Alcoholics: Taking these seeds aid the stomach and reduces your desire for having a drink.
Heart: A teaspoon of Ajwain with hot water relieves heartache.
Ear: Ajwain oil relieve ear ache with a drop or two in the ear.
Arthritis: Ajwain oil can also be used to massage legs and knees when suffering pain from arthritis.
Teeth: The smoke of burning Ajwain seeds is good for a toothache. Gargle your mouth with lukewarm water mixed with Ajwain and salt up to two or three times daily if you have a toothache.
