How to store computer parts in storage pods?
If you are moving your office to a new place, you may have found several PC parts piled up here and there. A mess of hard drives, computer cables, keyboards, extra motherboards, monitors and other unused computer parts is common in workplaces. But not all of them are required for the new office. If you found more PCs and PC parts that you will need, you can store them in storage units. And here are the tips:
1. Storing motherboards, drives and cards:
PC parts like motherboards, drives, RAMs and sound/graphic cards come with electronic circuitry or chips. Hence, they are susceptible to damage due to ESD (Electrostatic Discharge). This is why you must keep them safe in an anti-static bag. Renting a climate-controlled rental will be the best to store them. For extra protection, you can add a layer of bubble wrap or foam over the antistatic bag. And then place them in a plastic bin or cardboard box with silica gel packs inside. Although you should avoid stacking them on top of each other to prevent damage.
2. Storing PC cables:
One of the main issues of storing PC cables is to prevent them to get tangled like spaghetti. Hence, you need to take good care of it when storing it. The best way to do so is by loosely winding each length of the cables and securing it with a simple cable tie. Once done, you can place the cables in a spare newspaper bin or basket. Apart from that, you can also use the inner cardboard rolls from kitchen paper towels. But you need to ensure that you are not squashing them under heavy items when storing.
3. Storing monitors:
Like motherboards and drives, computer monitors should also be placed in antistatic bags. Along with that, also consider some cushioning like a layer of bubble wrap for extra protection. Yet, you need to be careful when moving the PC monitors.
4. Storing other PC parts:
For storing flash drives, memory sticks, screws, fans, ties and other removable parts, you can use:
i) Wheeled or stackable plastic drawer units.
ii) Clean plastic ice cream containers or shoe boxes.
iii) Plastic toolboxes with compartments.
Do you have a lot of spare PC parts in your office? Well, you can store them in skilled self storage in Kingsgrove. All you have to do is follow the right steps. And we hope this article will help you with that.
