It is actually very difficult to just look at a graphic design project and determine whether it is any good or not. There are actually a number of factors that will all play a role in the success of any design project, and you must also take into account that an individual’s answer may change depending on their own personal tastes. If you want to determine whether your work is any good, answer the following questions.
- “Is the idea clear?”
All successful graphic design projects will have a clear vision or idea that is effortlessly conveyed through the work. Those projects that are more of a flop than anything are often due to the fact that the idea has been lost amongst the creativity and the graphics. - “Was your designer any good?”
If you have absolutely no experience in the industry but decided to tackle the project anyway, it’s likely that the finished product won’t be as polished as you would like. You should always used a trained, experienced and reputable designer. - “Did the designer take a professional approach?”
Hopefully the designers conducted themselves in a completely professional manner, meaning that they listened to your instructions, understood exactly what you wanted and ensured that your message was clearly conveyed through the work. - “Does it relate to the target audience?”
The ultimate way of determining the success of a graphic design project is whether it relates to the intended audience or not. If the finished product doesn’t grab the attention of the audience or motivate them to do something, the project has failed. - “Are the pictures and images clear?”
Carefully scrutinize the pictures and images used in the work; they should not be pixilated or blurred in the slightest. On top of this, the whole project should be presented in as professional a manner as possible with all images linking together. - “Is there a colour theme?”
Anyone who works in graphic design will understand that colours form a vital part of any project. It is important to remember, however, that colour helps to express emotions and feelings – don’t give your audience the wrong impression with your colours.
Once you have answered each of the above questions satisfactorily, you will be in a much better position to determine whether your graphic design work is any good or whether you should turn back to the drawing board. At the end of the day, you must also remember that personal taste certainly does come into it, especially when judging the level of success that your design experiences; you can’t please everyone.
