How to: the Logo
When you look at a site that has turned into a brand over the years and consider their logo it might not seem as much. Many would comment that anyone could do it, there’s nothing difficult or challenging or unique to it. Still, there are so few sites with memorable logos that sometimes we think we can count them on the fingers of our hands.
Why is the logo important?
The logo is an essential part of the visual identity package; some experts say that maybe the most important. It needs to be remarkable, eye-catching without intruding, soft enough so we can see it on every page of the site and not be bothered and strong enough that if we see it just once coming from a google search to remember it.
Many clients involve the design company in the process of naming the site too, we usually suggest they get us aboard too if they don’t have a name already. It is important to be present in the discussions from the early days because this is when you get all the valuable information from the client. The name can help with the creation of the logo or, just as well, it can be the other way around: you have a great idea for a symbol, icon, and representation and use it to find a name for the site.
Details that the designer needs to know before starting work for the logo: – How did the client come up with that name? – What does the name stand for? – Does the name have multiple explanations? – What is the target of the site? – What are the characteristics of the site (tone of voice, type of content, what kind of interaction with the user it offers)? – Who are the competitors? – Does the client have already something in mind?
While we don’t believe in a long brief, that tend to be too extensive to be helpful for anyone, getting an answer for each of this questions is crucial before starting the work for the logo. The logo needs to say it all, in a limited amount of space and with few words.
Also remember that the logo needs to fit the visual identity of the company, so it the company won’t provide you with the details, pay attention to their emails, offline campaigns, etc. to get a glimpse of how they did things before.
The story behind the logo:
Every good logo has a message behind it, a message that speaks to its audience, even if it says different things to different people, it has a voice of its own and an appeal. Once that story is discovered, creating the first sketches for the logo should be easy as all the designer needs to do is translate the message in a structured way to the audiences.
We found out that common sense and general knowledge of things come in handy when designing a good logo. If you are looking for a company to create a memorable logo and develop a remarkable site for your business, give us a call today. Visit us at : www.worldwide-corporate.com
