TIPS FOR COMPLETING A WRITING PROJECT

Writers’ block, procrastination, and a sense of overwhelm are all forms of inner resistance that most writers confront at some point in their career or level of experience. However, in spite of the productivity hindrances and creative stagnancy that originates on our internal landscape, there are ways to overcome and press through to the completion of any size writing project.

KNOW & BELIEVE

1. Acknowledge & Believe – Acknowledge that you have a story to tell or a message to share & believe that your experiences are not just for you. We all were created with a plan and a purpose before our earthly arrival, so acknowledge and believe that the message is already complete within you.

• Know that if this desire has been in your spirit for a long time and you believe that it is part of your earthly assignment, then it will not go away until you give birth to it no matter how long you choose to sit on it inactively.

• Know that you will not be fulfilled or totally satisfied within yourself and will have a tinge of regret tucked beneath the surrounding edges of your consciousness for not pursuing your dream. Avoidance, denial, procrastination, or the accomplishment of other activities and projects will not make it go away. It will continue to niggle at you throughout your remaining days.

• Know that if God has assigned it, He will see that it is completed (Phil 1:6); and His word will not return void, it will accomplish what it was sent out to do. (Isaiah 55).

• Believe that part of your purpose is to convey this story or message to others.

• Believe that this is a divine assignment for you to accomplish and allow that knowledge to help carry you through the process, which may include low mood shifts of perceived stagnation and obstacles that may come up to distract and discourage you.

• Trust the process, rest in what you know and believe, let go and let God have His way.

SEEK SUPPORT & COMMIT TO COMPLETION

2. Align Yourself With Proven Trustworthy Available Support – It is cost effective to join a coaching program or writing group, where you can learn, ask and receive support in accomplishing your goals. We were created to be social, relational people, interdependent on each other.

• Ignorance can be expensive, frustrating, overwhelming and time consuming. What you don’t know can cost you unnecessarily.

• What you learn from others who have been there and done that will enable you to channel your funds into areas that are most beneficial to you and your project.

• Investing in a coaching program can expand your vision as you learn and begin to consider creative options never thought of before. If you focus on and stick with the program, blocking out all other information that can distract and overload and channel your energies to the task at hand, it can simplify your experience and help you maintain a state of peace.

3. Treat Your Writing Project Like A Second Job – Determine to commit, Re-prioritize your schedule, Schedule writing time and stick to it.

• Determine to commit to yourself, your writing, this process. I heard a preacher say that when you decide to do something, you kill off all other alte
atives. It is settled, you are bound. Be determined to manifest your book, article, or message.

• Re-prioritize your schedule. Reevaluate what you are presently giving your time to. Is it non-negotiable? Does it align with your life goals, dreams or desire? Are you wasting a lot of time watching TV or engaged in some other activities that are not really profitable to living the life you desire? Can your schedule be modified to fit in this process?

• Schedule time to write. Make time to write, following the schedule and instructions. Complete the assignments. Write down questions to ask if you have some and participate in a group forum. If you feel blocked, journal your experiences, but keep writing.

• TD Jakes used to say, “It will work if you work it!” If you want the plan to work, then you must work your plan.

• If you desire to transform your life, consider this a voluntary entry level position with maximum potential for growth and development, and determine to work toward ownership of the company.

SEE AND SAY IT!

Admit, recognize, and make known your gift and calling to write the message. Believe that you are equipped with everything you need to complete the work. Seek out support of a writing community, coach, and or like-minded friends to be accountable to and who will assist you in transforming your dream into the desired reality. Decide to do the work, prioritize the project, and follow through to completion.

See it as already done, start the journey with the support of community, and do the work toward the finish line, one sentence at a time, one day at a time, one teleconference at a time. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Know it, believe it and see it. The power of life and death is in the tongue, so speak life to your writing project and call those things that are not as if they were!
