There are a lot of things that could create cramps after periods. So, before you can worry about treating post period pain, you need to figure out the cause of it. After all, different causes may require different treatment methods.

Some Common Post Period Cramp Causes:

Hormones and hormone-like substances, such as prostaglandins, can be one major cause of cramping after you thing your period is over. The uterine contractions caused by prostaglandins and the dilation of the veins and arteries around your midsection that occurs at the same time can easily cause cramping during your period. Also, since prostaglandins can stay in your system for a few days after your period ends, cramps can continue.

Ovulation or complications from ovulation could also cause pain and cramping after the bleeding part of menstruation is done. Ovulation itself can cause cramps, but so can contractions or mucus build up in the fallopian tubes during the ovulation process. So, even though ovulation is a normal part of your menstrual cycle it can be uncomfortable and you may need to see a doctor if the problems persist.

Another thing that you should look into is the possibility that you may be pregnant, if you have been sexually active. After all, cramping, bloating and even bleeding can also be a symptom of pregnancy. So, you may want to see a gynecologist, if that could be a possibility.

A Simple Explanation:

There could also be an even more simple explanation for cramps after your period. They may not be after your period at all. In other words, the bleeding associated with menstruation may have only temporarily slowed or stopped. You might still have another day or two of your period to go. If that's the case, you should be looking for natural ways to regulate your period and keep the flow consistent so that you don't have to deal with false starts and stops.

Herbal Remedies:

Herbal remedies, such as Period Vitamin, are the best ways to regulate your body and reduce cramping throughout the entire menstruation and ovulation process. Such remedies usually contain at least a dozen vitamins, minerals and herbs that are all compiled together in order to properly fight problems associated with menstruation.

For example, evening primrose, calcium and wild yam can all be good at relieving menstrual cycle cramps. The same can be said for blue and black cohosh and most B vitamins. Then there's magnesium, which can relieve cramps, prevent mood swings and even help to reduce aches and pains. Also, it can help your body to make better use of other vitamins, minerals and herbs, such as calcium. So, finding a supplement that contains all of that substance, such as Period Vitamin, is a good idea.

Help Things Along:

Even if you find the perfect supplement, you still have to be willing to help things along in other ways. Mainly, you need to lead a healthy lifestyle so that cramping and irregular periods are less of a problem. So, be sure to limit caffeine and sugar, especially around the time of your period. Also, avoid unhealthy habits and take up regular exercise routines, instead. Then you should find that cramps after period times are greatly reduced, or stop entirely.
