Assuming that one has already procure at least 2 Salvia Divinorum plants, then it would not be a surprise that one would be very much interested in duplicating it to at most 20 by the end of the 3rd month. Considering the fact that it would be very expensive to buy 18 separate cuttings, why not propagate the 2 existing plants available and care for it long enough that they are capable of producing their own cuttings for planting and propagating?
Growth Happens After Adaptation
Adaptable as it is, the Salvia Divinorum is a plant that initially grows very slowly. But before it even enters the early stages of growth, it must be able to adjust first to the surrounding environment and the condition that comes with it. Upon receiving the plants, this alone is enough justification for them to halt their growth process and take the time to adapt to the current condition in comparison to its place of origin.
The length of the adaptation process can vary depending on how extremely different or similar the place of origin and the place of destination. Provided that both places have weather conditions that are almost similar to each other, it is a mistake not to take into the account the stress and the kind of environment the plants have to go through during the time of travel and delivery to the new owner.
Once the growth process kicks in, it can be very rapid as the Salvia Divinorum grows faster as it gets bigger until it reaches its peak growth rate. It takes a little bit of patience but within a month of caring there should be signs of growth. And if ever it growth is slightly delayed, maybe a bit of fertilizer can help jump-start its thriving capacity. Always make sure that the size of the pot is big enough to accommodate the potential length of the roots and the size of the plant itself. The problem with repotting the plant frequently to slightly bigger sizes can lead to a shift back to adapting to a new environment which automatically stops the growth momentum of the plant regardless of the its size and pace.
Identify Sideshoots For Cuttings
1. When the two plants are healthily growing side shoots and the leaves maintain their uniformed color all throughout, the shoots can be clipped off and can be rooted in water.
2. The length of time needed for rooting can be be indefinite but usually what is crucial is that as soon as the roots begin to grow from the cutting and are long enough, they can be planted directly into the soil.
3. The cuttings’ rate of growth might mimic that of its parent provided that the quality of care is excellent and consistent.
4. Usually the new cuttings can produce side-shoots of its own within a month of planting assuming that its rate of growth is uninterrupted with frequent repotting.
5. The steps can be repeated for all new cuttings clipped from the new batches Salvia Divinorum and by the third month, one can actually have a garden full of it at least 20 or more.
