In the past traditional astrologers looked at the Birth Chart as one’s fate. They judged planets and aspects as good and bad in black and white terms with descriptions like favorable, troublesome, benefic or malefic. If someone had a challenging aspect then they would predict hardship, alte
atively having a harmonious aspect they would give a more positive outcome. This left no room for self-adjustment and development.

New Approach to Astrology

I was attracted and trained in the Huber method of psychological astrology. As it focused on the development and growth of the individual. Here the Birth Chart becomes a tool for self-awareness giving us the ability to work with our challenges and develop our potentials. This is a more modern approach in working with astrology and one that is accordance with our evolving consciousness.

Traditional Astrology Prediction Can Be Accurate

I have however, been surprised on many occasions that certain aspects do produce the outcome that the traditional text books predict. If for example someone has a Venus/Satu
aspect they would forecast trouble with relationships, late marriage or union with an older partner. This, I found often to be the case and understanding the principles behind this I could see why. Where we differ however, is that in the conventional sense, this was your lot. You were destined to have troubled partnerships or would marry late in life or not at all. A psychological view would be recognizing the problem and working with the energy underlining this. Once this has been established you can harness the habits and attitudes you have around responsibility, duty,and self protection (Saturn), and the feminine libido of Venus. The psychological approach is basically bringing things up from the subconscious into conscious awareness and here lies the difference.

The Crux of the Matter

Ancestral astrologers could easily predict these outcomes because most people lived from a subconscious state and through their basic senses. These energy patterns would operate in the same vein from generation to generation and have a predicable outcome. Past generations were conditioned to think such things as; this is my lot, this is what God had planned for me or this is the way my cards have been dealt. Even today if someone is living at this level, you can see the inevitable. However,it is the astrologer’s task to lead them toward awareness. Showing the reasons behind the aspects and how they can use them in a different and more productive way.

We Need To Blend the Old into New Methods

I have come to respect the traditional astrologer’s insights. The ancient’s left us with a treasure chest of knowledge. As we develop our consciousness we must not think that we are more superior. By having a new approach that corresponds with our growth and development as a human race,we enhance the wisdom of our ancestry.

Traditional astrology has still much to teach, the ancients indeed knew their stuff. Blending this with a psychological approach is both a positive and more productive way to use this ancient knowledge. Blended together leads to deeper insights into ourselves and our world. Expanding our consciousness in this way we become more responsible for our actions and more conce
ed about the welfare of our planet. Traditional Astrology may have failed to see this due to their limited view that the heavens controlled our fate. However, the wisdom of traditional astrology combined with the insights of Psychology make for a great team that cannot fail to bring enlightenment.
