If you want to give back to the society, you need to work with non-profit charity organizations, who have made it their life’s mission to do good work. It can be across a stream of sectors including but not limited to education, healthcare, empowerment, rural finance, infrastructure development, and more. Depending on what you feel the most strongly about and feel like you can make a difference to it, you can choose the field you would like to contribute to. Saving Children in Poverty (SCIP) is one such non-profit charity organization that contributes to a lot of positive projects in Sector-Four Slum of Faridabad in India. It runs a SCIP ECO School which educates around two hundred slum kids for free. It also runs a SCIP Medical Clinic that provides free healthcare facilities to the women and children living in the slum, while also organizing medical healthcare camps for the same. Apart from this, it also runs a women empowerment project called SCIP SEWS that helps poor women to be self-sufficient and to be financially independent by giving them a way to generate income and live with dignity. It also contributes to the education of 10-15 children every year, by launching the SCIP Annual Sponsorship, where children are supported to continue their studies at the Nehru Academy School. Sponsors from around the world help with their hard-earned money by contributing to this cause because education is a way forward. Let’s look at how you can work with a non-profit charity organization such as Saving Children in Poverty. 1. Donate to a non-profit organisation (NPO) The best way to show your support is to put your money where your mouth is. If you support something that Saving Children in Poverty is doing and would like them to continue with their efforts, then all you need to do is donate because funds are always tight at an NPO and they’d appreciate any help that they can get from you. You can either be a one-off donor or a regular donor. Since all the projects at the SCIP NGO are sanctioned by the Global Development Group Project (GDP), please know that your donation above $2 is completely tax-deductible. Rather than spending your hard-earned money on meaningless things, it would be worthwhile knowing that it was spent towards a good cause. So, next weekend when you have the option to choose from a $200 fancy meal or supporting a child’s education for a year- what will you choose? 2. Volunteer for a variety of charity projects Time is the most valuable asset that we have. You know, in this world you might be able to buy anything with a bit of money, but how can you buy more time? Ask this to a person on his deathbed -- does he want more money or does he want more time? So, when you decide to give your time to a social cause, you are making a very bold decision and your personal choice of giving back to the community is commendable. When you volunteer at an NGO, you are not only giving in terms of your time but also your invaluable skills. Suppose if you are a trained nurse, then you can spend a few months at the SCIP Medical Clinic taking care of the sick as well by organizing health check-up camps and imparting knowledge of the first aid among the residents of the slum. This way you’d get to do what you love while contributing to the betterment of the society. 3. Support them on social media - Be A Champion Sometimes, you might not have time or money to support the charity of your choice, even though you believe in the cause that they are working for with full conviction. During such times, you can be a social media warrior and help them go viral by sharing the news and updates of their work regularly on your various social media platforms. You can also write to them a few encouraging words saying how much you appreciate what they are doing and would love to continue supporting them in whichever way you can. So, how do you plan to work with a charitable organization? Do leave us a comment and let us know your plan of action.
