How tough is to crack UGC NET?
Legacy signals

Yes, passing the UGC-NET is difficult, but nothing is impossible. Everything is possible if you truly want it and are willing to put in the effort. “Great things don’t happen in comfort zones.”
I got my JRF in education in December 2019, and I’d like to share some advice with you based on my experience.
Before we go into the technique, there are a few things you should know about UGC-NET.
- The exam is held twice a year. That is, in the months of June and December.
- In Indian universities and colleges, it is the minimal requirement for Assistant Professor and Junior Fellowship (JRF) awards.
- The paper is divided into two sections. Part 1: General studies (applicable to everyone); Part 2: that is your subject.
- There are no negative marks in wrong answer.
Now, for the exam strategy, which I followed.
- To begin, familiarise yourself with the exam structure. It includes the type of questions being asked by the NTA. Also, look at the difficulty level of the questions on the paper, such as easy, moderate, or difficult.
- Then, depending on your knowledge and mastery of the topic, divide your syllabus into three parts (strong, moderate, and weak).
- Don’t forget about the first paper. It’s a high-scoring piece of paper. The similar procedure should be followed for the Paper I. Divide your syllabus into 3 parts based on your understanding and knowledge and mastery of the subject. Don’t feel it necessary to complete syllabus; if you complete 70% of it, that will sufficient.
- Give UGC NET mock tests on a regular basis, starting with last year’s papers in both subjects. Then go over your paper and Analyse it.
- Make short or one-line notes while you are analysing a paper (very important).
- Finish your syllabus and revise thoroughly.
Some helpful suggestions for when you’re in the examination hall.
- If you don’t know the answer to any of the questions, especially the first one, don’t panic; instead, keep calm and focused on the remaining questions. Please don’t be worried; otherwise, your dream will be lost.
- Because there were three paragraphs in the last exam (December 2019), one in paper 1 and two in paper 2, time management is important.
A few key things to keep in mind.
- Give both papers equal weight or time. If you spend two hours studying paper 2 (your subject), you should dedicate at least one hour or 30 minutes to paper 1.
- If you didn’t perform well on the mock test, don’t get too hot and bothered about it because it’s not your final paper; remember, learn from your mistakes.
- Never question yourself.
- In this world, you can become anything. Data interpretation and comprehensive reading should be practised on a regular basis.
- Focus on other topics or units if your mathematics reasoning is weak, rather than taking tension.
Thank you!!
