VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is the latest innovation in telecommunication technology. VoIP phone systems convert regular voice calls into digital data and transmit over the Internet, or a packet-switched network. In other words, when you are opting for a VoIP system, you are using the Internet to make telephone calls.
There can be no doubt that VoIP systems are proving to be extremely useful and for this reason - more and more business organizations are switching over to VoIP discarding the traditional phone systems. Here are some of the factors why the business community considers VoIP as a useful communication system.
1.The major advantage of VoIP phone service over a traditional phone system is that it is a lot more cost-saving. Long-distance calls are extremely economical. This is particularly attractive for businesses that need to make frequent long distance calls.
2.Businesses with a broadband Internet connection (DSL or cable) can make PC-to-PC phone calls anywhere in the world free of charge. Even a PC-to-phone connection attracts a minimal charge that is typically less than traditional system.
3.Many sophisticated features that are either absent or chargeable with traditional phone system are available as standard features in VoIP. Call forwarding, call waiting, voicemail, caller ID, simultaneous ringing across multiple phones, seamless call transfers, and three-way calling are some of the standard features available. Besides, there are a host of advanced features that most business enterprises will find useful.
4.Businesses having multiple locations can be connected to a Local Area Network (LAN) or Wide Area Network (WAN) whereby they can share all features of the VoIP system without the necessity of separate phone systems in each location.
5.Yet another key usefulness of VoIP is its portability. For instance, you can take your VoIP phone service with you wherever you go and make/receive phone calls wherever there is a broadband connection. This is particularly attractive to traveling employees.
6.With a VoIP system, all system administration activities are performed on the network through a browser based program. This means that the system can be easily modified from anywhere whenever required.
7.The VoIP system is scalable and you can expand the system as your business grows. In other words, it can be said that you only pay for what you use.
8.Unified communications is feasible as VoIP can integrate voice with other business systems including email, CRM and web system.
Since it is apparent that all communications will be IP based in the foreseeable future, it is wise to switch over toward VoIP without further delay. Investing now in a VoIP system that provides interoperability with the emerging technologies can help you stay ahead of competition.
Please know the VoIP system is a game changer. Even business houses that may not need all of the benefits of VoIP must know that traditional TDM-based phone system will soon become outdated. When that happens, businesses will, in any case, have to replace their traditional systems with the latest technology. Being an early bird can be a saner option.
Businesses that have switched over to VoIP unanimously agree that sending voice communication digitally over the internet has hugely improved their communication efficiency and has significantly increased the overall productivity.
