The first, and by far the most popular category of definitions, described holistic health as an approach to healing and alternative medicine. This definition of holistic health is often used interchangeably with the definition of holistic practices or alternative medicine. However, it fails to tell you about the health of body and mind which is what holistic health is based on. The definition of holistic health is simple and inclusive. It is your overall state of wellness on all levels of your being: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. It covers the health of your entire being and extends to your resources, environment and relationships. Although we've become accustomed to examining and treating each of these areas separately, holistic health or wellness implies the health of the whole. In reality, your body, mind and spirit are completely intertwined and cannot be separated. They are aspects of the whole, not separate entities. To affect one level, either positively or negatively, influences your entire being. Once people truly grasp the importance of the mind-body-spirit-relationship, and address well-being on all levels, the more likely we are to see remarkable healings occur. Holistic medicine is more an approach to how individuals should be treated, as opposed to a treatment method in and of itself. Those who practice it believe that maintaining good health is more than simply taking care of the different parts of our physical bodies and it incorporates emotional and spiritual aspects as well. The overall goal of holistic medicine is entire wellness, not simply a lack of disease or physical pain. The human body has natural healing abilities. Holistic healing and alternative health care solutions support the body in healing itself. It is a philosophy of medical care that views physical and mental aspects of life. Holistic healing means taking approach that is holistic and when you seek a treatment for imbalances and choosing to live a more balanced lifestyle. There is a fact that can easily distinguish between the holistic healing and alternative medicine, which is a complementary medicine, and integrative medicine is that physical health is not necessarily the main focus. Even so, it is often the experience of physical discomfort that will first prompt a person's pursuit of holistic healing.
